Clearcoat cracked

Featured Replies

How long does clearcoat need to stabilize? I've just checked and all the clearcoat I applied to my car a month or two ago has cracked. Some cracked after a day elsewhere I only just noticed it now, after two months. I'm thinking it's down to several reasons, one of them being that I didn't wait for the paint to fully dry before applying clearcoat. Others are temperature changes when it was drying. Is it these two? Or is it something else?

reaction with base coat? to much solvent in base coat (not left to dry long enough)

what clear did you use and over what base?

Could be a reaction as said above. I doubt its because the paint didnt dry, in my opinion; it gives a better finish if the paint isnt dried solid.

What if you put too much Hardner or 'Rocket' in?

yeah idealy you want to clearcoat soon after the basecoat has gone on so it has a chance to stick

its either incompatible paints/primers or massive amounts of products on there in too short of a time, then the underlaying paint/primer has shrunk and caused the cracks
