Sorry but I stand by my previous statement regarding not getting through a proper legal MOT. You'll need to run a cat and I really do think that you'll struggle to get the carbs to run lean enough to get through a Euro II test.

i was thinking how hard is it to put motobike carbs on to a 6n polo (1.4 8v and all that)

cause i think i might put the webbers on my mk1 golf now got manifold for them to fit off a friend

its the same kinda work but half the cost mate. suppose with bike carbs you just piky up a manifold using you old inlet? i know that its possible to do that on the 16v golfs.

not really mate, a set of second hand 40's will set you back about £200? and a set of bike carbs about £50, then you have the price of fuel pump and reg for the twins say what £140ish? new, maybe half that second hand where as you can just use the fuel pump from the bike the carbs came from for like £20. then if you can just modify the standard inlet mani fold to take the bike carbs your on to a winner.

You can't modify the inlet to make any good inlet for bike carbs on the small blocks.

Thinking about it there is a bit more money to weber/dellorto it, but do able for less than £300 if you try. If you dont make your own bike carb mani, you're looking at near that since most people buy the facet pump and a regulator.

yeah just pointing out that it can be done very cheaply with bike carbs compared to twin 40-45's. there was a lad on club gti that fitted bike carbs to his 16v gti for under £100. but as you say a mani will set you back a fair bit, but surely it wouldn't take much to modify the mani? just cut it off then set about port matching it with a dremal? like i say it works for the 16v inlet, although i've not had much to do with the smaller cc engines tho so i'm just guessing.

cars where made with 40s on them lol there not as good as peple make out to be and less there on a shit hot engine

just get the cam out of a 1.6 and the throttle body from a 1.6

and then get the exhaust manifold off a mk3 golf 1.6 i think might be a 1.4 any way there a 4-2-1

standerd polo manifolds are 4 in to 1 there shit

and you will be geting more then a set of 40s will put out on a standerd engine

and you wouldent need to tell your insurance co as it all looks standerd and all stamped with vw

saying all that tho 40s are cheep at the mo i got a set for 120 jeted for 1.6 with trumpets and linkage and faset fuel pump and a reg and 2 years a go i payed 300 for some naw is the time to get them if you are

i just got some of a mk2 golf inlet for a 1.8 twin 40s for 87POUNDS i couldnt belive it any body want the inlet manifold

I know few people running 40's and even 1 or 2 running 45's

Never heard of them not passing an MOT....

Try regal autosport for a new Dbilas one - not cheap but nice manifolds.

how do you find out what size jets ect you should be running in the carbs? i've tried reading up on clubgti but its all over my head lol.

McLovin, asking someone that knows is best for a first step. Then you can tune them to your individual engine with trial and error or on a RR with someone who knows what they are doing.

Weeman, I'm not sure what inlet pattern that is, i'd imagine it is the same design as the gti, so yeah that would be easier. But if not i'm not sure.. sorry! You can get them though.
