well i decided to bit the bullet and convert my daily loon to a GT to make it a bit more fun and usable.

the short version of the long story is....

heck was a converted 1.0L genesis to a G, G poped a oil seal so it became a GT, GT started playing up, so bough Skoda it sucked so binned it and bought the loon as my new daily, loon wasnt meant to be a keeper but i have grown to love it and spend time/money on it,

so fixed the GT engine last week (in the heck) and booked the last week of May off work to convert it properly.

so todays start was get the GT engine out the heck..

poor hecks had 3 engine changes in 4 years (1L - GT, GT - G40, G40 - GT) but the bodyworks still good (pushed out side so it can pish all its antifreeze on the drive)

Gt up up and away with assistant Dad for an hour or two.

empty heck will get G40ed again later in the year hopefully. its been getting worked on quietly in the background.

the loon in for a treat over the next 3 weeks, ignore its disabled brother its a cube now.

turned a whole 50K last week on its little AAV unit.

loons spec to date is:

Standard Polo CL spi engine with 50K on it and with 5 speed (8p) box.

GT/G40 Rear axle

GT Clocks

G40 Front Brakes

Coupe GT Gear nob

Corrado 15” BBS Wheels 15 x 6.5 ET33 with 195/60 Tyres.

G40/ GT extra Leather Steering wheel.

VAG Centre consol Cassette Holder

VAG Door Speaker pods and dash mounted Tweeters

Clear front indicators

VAG Headlamp protectors

Black GT/G40 Grill badge

Future work:

Replace the track control and steering arms.

Install the GT/G40 Rear Axle load valve

Install my GT Engine 94K and gearbox with a G40 manifold and GT exhaust system.

new clutch for the above when its out.

Fit the rear loon NZ wiring loom (same as a GT) so it can run a GT inline fuel pump

Fit a new dash loom as the alarm man has buggered the existing one up something rotten .

Fit the GT/G40 Steering Damper when the engines out.

Dream list :

Loose the black speed stripes along the doors

De badge the boot and fit a “Polo_GT” badge

Get an External Re spray and loose the arch, sill and door trims.

Get lower profile tyres maybe 55 or 50s to stop the scrubbing.

Lower her 30mm all round.

i've just finished stripping my GT interior and exterior bits and bobs this weekend, its actually fun taking everything out/off, even found a pound under the carpet! woop and with that found that the driver footwell foam under the carpet was soaked, looked under the dash and saw a nice rusty hole in the battery tray. i was sure the leak was from the door water sheet. if i had the balls to take out the side/front window i would take the roof lining out as its mint

got the wheels. GT arches, engine and suspension to do nest. NOT looking forward to that.

tho to be honest i'm seriously thinking about keeping all the goodies i've collected over the years, selling the GT parts (arches, seats etc) and hunting for a nice black G40 (yeah, i know "good luck!" your thinking ) that way, i keep the personal look I've made of the car but on a more powerful car.

ahh that white saloon reminds me of my old one and makes me want another.

the speakers are just 10cms same as the dash sam, only difference is you get 2 tweeters in the dash. nothing amazing sound wise to be honest, but they look quite nice in the doorsi think :-)

sounds like a plan liam, just keep hunting/saving good ones come up now and then at ok prices. send me your email liam i have a set of labels in microsoft word you can print and selotape to the wires then u know where they all go, and i have a set of photos when i stripped a wee Green GT heck back in 2005 (the engine thats going in the loon actually) as i photoes everything that time round as it was my first. for the windows just stanley round the rubber and they lift out really really easy, then hair dryer the headliner takes about an hour all in, you may as well get all u can off it before scrapping the shell. the photo above of the loon on the drive shows a very dead GT i broke a month or so back, the mechanics live on and the axles on the loon, but the bodywork was shocking, more fiberglass than metal, done everyone a favour scrapping it!! but it had 101 godo bits still on it.

i have to admit hayesey my loons based on your old one it looked spot on in my eyes but yours sat a bit lower i think. and didnt have silly speed lines on the doors.

nothing getting done to the loon this week as i need it for work . but the hecks had some bling done over the last month or 2, with thanks to scott and ross for assistance!

lol no I'm just a massive polo anorak. only know my way about mk3 polos and old things like Morris minors and old BMC A series engine stuff. newer than 94 and I'm out my depth.

yeah every thing is still available from VAG to do with the back axle. some of it is silly prices tho so i got some bits sandblasted and powder coated instead as it was cheeper.

i plan on replacing all bolts, springs, cylinders, stub axles an back plates. drum outers i'll have from GSF, will use VAG wheelbearings...

£43.96 inc VAT each for the backplates , so no way was i paying that, it was much cheeper getting them sandblasted and powder coated and to be honest they look 90% new. all the powder coating in the pic was £110 all in so i thought that was good as it looked like a pile of shit when it was dropped off to be blasted, but came back looking very smooth and fresh.

i would just go to GSF mate as they do good stuff i did all the brakes on the back of the loon a few months back and i think it was £110 all in - drums, shoes, spring kit, bearings, handbrake cables.

VW nuts and bolts are crazy prices, you can spend £££ and have a biscuit tin sized box of bolts to show for it.

depends what level of crazyness you want to go too, my loons a run about so its good but budget for it (GSF) partco etc , but my hecks just a big toy and lives in the garage most of its life when its raining.
