Featured Replies

Hey guys, Here are some pictures of my car as she currently stands.

After driving her for the first time this weekend, I can only say hot dammmmmmm! She is not even tuned in and she pulls like a train. I thought I was driving a 2.0 and she is only a 1.3!!!! Let me know what you think.

Stunning in every respect.

Really nice to see a conversion that looks like it was meant.

My main advice would be buy a fire extinguisher! and I'm not being a wise ass just remember Heartagrams twin carbed golf going up in flames.

I'm sure someone on here will know who can give it a tune?

Orange indicators FTW.

If you get reading you'll be able to tune it pretty well yourself - worth it in the long run since you don't have to keep going back to places.

Does look lovely, what size chokes are you running?

2 days to the year the muppet went up =[ RIP.

still not bought a fire extinguisher yet =/ i want to work from home on tuesday

the conversion looks sweet dude, when you get it all set up you should remove the pressure guage, as they are meant to be for testing purposes only, other than that looks dope.

are you running a knock off switch at all? or running the pump from the coil so it only turns the pump on when there is a spark? good safety feature like

That looks siiick. Good job man!

8-)

nice job you've done there!

one quick Q, where have you taken the vacuum feed from for the distributor?

Hey guys thanks for the props,

I have not taken any vacum to the dizzy just blanked it off. I wired a cut out switch into the glove box that is on live when the ignition is live. I took the power from the rear window demister circuit. So the pump can only run when the ignition is on, plus I can turn it off straight away if need be.

Not sure about the choke sizes as I bought them new and gave the guy my engine specs. My plans now are to get the carbs balanced, and tuned on a dyno machine so that I know the car is running correctly. PS I have a fire extinguisher LOL! I have tried to keep and old school them with this car and I have some special wheels planned as well. Now I just want to drive the beast! LOL!

Ohh and also I have the blanking plug for the presure gauge, just leaving it in until the carbs are set. I really dont want all my hard work going up in flames!

Bought new? Jesus...

What manifold are you using, volkswagen motorsport?

That's awesome!!!

Absolutley loving this mate......

I've got a silver coupe that I'm putting bike carbs on soon (picking em up at alltypes), given me inspiration man!!!!

The manifold was bought from Euro Carb, it is not one I have seen before to be honest. It is a rubish casting to be honest, and I was extremely disapointed at the amount of clearancing work I had to do with my dremel, just tso that I could fit the nuts on the runner side to bolt them on to the head studs.

It was totaly rubbish in my opion considering I purchased it new from them!!!!!! THe carbs were bought else were as a result.

So if anyone is tempted, dont rather by a VW motor sport one or sorg. Do not go there.

Sorry rant over, I am just not a fan of loosing 5-6 hours of my life grinding away bits of casting in order to clear nuts.

Nice one dude, my best advice is dont loose steam, keep going until its done. Its os worth it when you finally drive it!

I've been away without ma car fr 6 months so am fired up for the conversion now!! ha ha

i think eurocarb sell the mangoletsi inlet manifolds and they are renowned for needing fettling around the nuts, rowlands, sorg or vw motorsport sell the best ones known, the mangoletsi ones also dont have particularly great surfaces in the actual ports themselves which is a shame like but I'm sure it goes like stink an sounds ace

get some vids mofu

I am not sure what make it is to be honest, All I know is the money I paid for that was ridiculous compared to what I could have got a VW motorsport one. Anyway we live and learn. This one did actualy have a pretty good suface on the inside of the runners, and was very smooth. It was just the casting that was rubish, and obviously had not been paterned properly. Anyway I am just really happy its all done, so not its just a case of finding someon who knows how to tune these on a rolling road!

this looks amazing mate....it must be so fun to drive!! I'm very jelous!

The Sorg manifolds are pretty aweful for that aswell to be honest. I don't know why they didn't design them better, it wouldn't take much thought! I bought a Dbilas one for an AEE engine, and it was much much better, they'd even smoothed out a casting mark in the runner - better quality control. I can't comment on their 1300 ones, but i'd rather buy one of them!

you really should fit a inertia switch in the fuel pump wiring...they cut off automaticly if you roll it over it hit a tree etc , you might not be able to manualy turn it off straight away if youre unlucky enough to be a bad accident

anyway...looking good , nice to see a clean straight paintjob and no matt black for a change

Cheers guys,

I have just organise to send the dizzy to H&H Ignitions as well to get the ignition curve reset and the vacum it taken off. So it should run even better then.

Lovely!

You should come along to the Oxford meets we have once a month, Aylesbury isn't tooooo far away I guess.
