its nice to see something different done with a C2, and the kid obviously loves how it looks, fair play to him, its much better than sticking 19's on with a westwood kit.

now when i read this i thought i was going to get stick for it (I'm used to it) but I'm suprised really as you guys have actually seen mine isnt technically rat nor have i called it that. its my own thing with yes generic elements from the "rat" scene, such as a roof rack etc (which i use for my surfboard)

the car to me i do love doing things to, I'm a very creative person so the whole creativity of what you seen people doing to their cars is what drew me to the look. and how cheap it could be done.

not including the car iv spent about £500 in total (360 of that was the coilovers) so 150 for stuff like roof rack, bonnet, stickers, and general extras... come to think of it i probably haven't even spent that much! hah

as someone put i dont have a label for the car, at first i called it a rat look, but then thought no it wasnt, so then it was hoodride, but now i duno what it is, so iv called it a Nu-Ride or Nu-C2.

its more about having the paint looking fresh BUT no worrying about if you get scratches, dings, dents etc (mine has loads, major one in the roof :( ) which is great compared to say euro boys who worry about a tiny scratch. but then if you look at the car mine and the red ibiza next to it. we have no rust on the outside. (i have some on the bonnet. but thats because i stripped it and grinded it for bordom, but am now lookin at doing someting to it).

i totally agree with people though about the over the topness though on some peoples cars. the ones on the site (which obviously I'm a member of haha) i like, because iv follwed the creativity of what theyve done, but well you do get the chavs as said who copy something blantly and call it rat.

there was a matt black something (dont know dont care) at a show i went to tonight, and it was coverd in rubbish. no roofrack just made to look shit, and the guy said like my ratlook. just told him its over the top and walkd off. i hate those people!

the main reason i did this to the car was to be different as jackblack said pretty much all the members on the c2forum have alloys over 16" and love the foglights lol but the rat look is going the same way now with people thinking they doing it but they aint.

but then what is rat look? as said i think it has the different forms. but to me now its moved on from having rusty body work etc (first in the us then vw) to being as creative as you can be with your car, with out spending loads of money or worrying about if you are car will look "good"

thought i would post this so you can see what its like from my point of view :)

i have two more points to say.....

I'm 20 so am i kid? lol

and the car is an 07plate and there is rust underneath already! citroens for you! haha

If you'd bothered to read the start of my thread on there , I think I said something like 'it's not really rat , more retro ' but what ever it is , I built it to my own tastes and not to please anyone else so at the end of the day as long as I like it that's all that matters :p

You may not like the forum but I've found it to be a good laugh and not full of sniping keyboard warriors who can do nothing but take the piss out other peoples cars ! Barry boys is for that sorta thing and that's full of tossers too

its to do with the whole scene points thing.

one the sites I'm on you get people saying they are getting chequers or stuff like that which every has done because.... its get you scene points

so i have grafittied the bonnet with checks and thought hey its scene!

the original plan was to have stuff like the ace of spades and dice etc but was a bit over complicated for my first time spraying lol

I can't see this going anywhere really.... It's just one person's opinion against the others. Most of the cars on that forum seem to have been shitters from the time the owner bought them, an to be honest I'd rather drive a "rat" car rather than just a standard heap of sh*t. Obviously this doesn't apply to all.. for example the C2!

I think it's pretty fresh in its own way, but as has been said on here previously... the rat look is achieved from many years of bumps/dents/scrapes/rust etc, so this being a new car, it's obviously not going to have many. I'd like to see what it looks like in 15/20 years, would that then be classed as a proper rat like the campers posted? Or still forced.....

i love a nice rusty-old motor more than most, but most of the cars on there look worse for the sake of looking worse! and note rusty-OLD motor, 'rat' just looks stupid on anything post 1989 as it doesn't feel real?

and cos i love to tell this fact, here goes 'rat' as most people (who have picked the term up from a mag or website) refer to it is not infact 'rat'.... 'rat' was a term used by traditional hot rodders (what you lot would call rat, ie that wicked caddy few pages earlier) to descibe poorly built versions of their simple rusty panelled hot rods... in the kustom/rod scene, it's actually an insult to call someones car ratty, as it means poor workmanship... not a scene, or style!

so , no one gets it except rodders!

**EDIT** - i also think a 'rat rod/ride' needs power to back it up, so it becomes some next level sleeper! ie this mk3 cortina

You've missed the point aswell.....it wasnt the cars we were moaning at. It was calling them rat-look when they clearly arent I like most of the cars tbh, but they arent real rats are they....

thats the point tho, rat look cars didn't have all this crap bolted on them, when did you ever see a rat rod with a roof rack and yellow tinted head lights?

rat look is not roof racks and check paint, these are just touches added to them to give it a personal touch so when your coping this aspect of it your not actually copying the rat look. then just to ad to the stupidity of it all it gets done to a car that got good body work, therefore meaning it has nothing in common with rat look apart from a couple of trinkets hanging off it that some one once saw on a rat look car. which is fair enough (its your car you can do what you like with it and if it makes you happy then all the batter) but when you start trying to call it rat look its gonna rub people up the wrong way. you point out the LOOOOOK part of it, but that's the only part of "rat look" that can be applied to most of the cars people try so hard to pigeon hole in to the rat look genre these days.

the ratty drift cars posted up are a perfect example of this, not one of them had any of the tat stuck on them, but there still rat, why? because they have shafted body work. if your car hasn't got shafted body work then how on earth can it be rat look? no matter how many times i've asked this question in this thread no one has been able to answer it.

now while we have some of the users from that site posting in here how about you take a second to answer a question i posted earlier...

all these pics were posted in a thread on that site asking users to post pics of rat look cars, don't get me wrong there were some pics of some sweet rats, but when you have users posting cars like this showing full blown ignorance to what the site stands for (the rat look), which unfortunately for the site makes it look like a complete joke to any body looking from the outside in.

See the picture in my avatar, it's a bare metal Hot rod plane simple. It's also in California where things depreciate in a far more subtle way. Old cars have "character" "weathered look" and "Patina"

The whole rat thing stems from some prick who perceived flawless Boyd Coddington Shiny paint cars as Hot rods and gave Original traditional hot rods the term Rat. Original hot rods were about performance and were immediate so a model A body would take on this "weathered" appearance up against a shiny flat four engine.

To me in the UK bare metal basically means the beginning of the end for a car. There are exceptions where people have done under the bonnet stuff and have a sense of controlling the oxidisation but there's usually a lot of work gone in where you can't see. Take for example my Caddy. If I get it back on the road there is no way I'm calling it a rat after all the welding I'll have to do to it even if the paint on the outside is left in all it's "character"
