When it decides to stop raining this week I am going to spend most of the day washing and polishing up the car on the outside. Got myself a pretty comprehensive Auto Glym setup and a few other bits.

-McGuires Wash Mitt

-Auto Glym Bodywork Shampoo Conditioner

-Super Resin Polish

-Ultra Deep Shine

-AutoGlym foamin Tyre Dressing

-Rotating 12v polish applicator

All in all a days wage spend on car cleaning kit!

Anyone got any tips on how to use this stuff? obv there is instructions on the back of the bottles but most of the time the experts reccomend different techniques!

Here is what I was looking to do...

1) obv rinse and wash the car with the shampoo conditioner and dry it off with the McGuires drying cloth all over

2) Once dry apply a coat of super resin polish then buff to a shime 30-40 mins after applying. Repeat for a second coat

3) Apply a coat or two of ultra deep shine

4) finally finish off with the tyre dressing once the wheels have been cleaned

I was thinking of using a clay bar somewhere in that lot but I haven't got a clue when to do it. Besides dont clay bars take FOREVER to use a clay bar all over the bodywork???

Any help apprichiated guys!

how many clay bars am I looking at needing for the car? wouldnt it be a clay bar a panel??

5/7 hours cleaning a car must be on crack 2 hours is more then enough.. people have way to much time to spend that much on cleaning there car.

A single claybar kit from halfords can clean multiple cars dependent on the condition of the paint

I do have a bit of an OCD when it comes to car cleaning to be fair ..

Shit thats me screwed then - mines being detailed soon --------- 2 days its going to take!

I use TurtleWax Colour Magic (obv different product but similar sort of job) and are you meant to leave it that long ??

you are looking at 6-8 hours depending on the state of the paint work i would say get a decent wax as it gives it a great finish

and also use sonus soft clay 1 bay should do the job use some uick detailer for lubricant and also start from top to bottem

and squeeze and change the shape of the clay so that u dont get the bits of shit u are picking up from scratching the sureface

I use it myself i have used softer clay which is better but for what your doing this will be sufficient just move it alot to keep it warm in the hand

To clean the outside of my car properly, wash, clay bar, wash, dry, polish and wax it takes about six hours. That's taking it steady, although I don't think you can rush this kind of thing otherwise you miss bits.

AutoGlym should see you well, although there is better stuff out there for a bit more money.

It's too late now though, you've spent your cash.

alot of people use a machine to remove swerlmarks

i had my lupo paint corected with a machine polisher a few mounths ago

With the products you've got...

Rinse the car down and wash using the 2 bucket method..

Personally i'd clay the car before polishing, the Megs kit is good, its quite a fine clay.. you wont need to bother drying the car if you're going to clay it after washing, just use some quick detailer if you have some as an extra lubricant..

Rinse the car off again and dry.

The Autoglym SRP and UDS are glazes with the some abrasiveness to polish..

You dont need to leave the SRP on the paint for a long time, just apply it with a foam applicator pad or the machine polisher if you prefer.. working on section at a time, then buff off with a microfibre..

Do the same with the UDS, I'm not sure if you need to leave that for a while, but its basically just a less abrasive version of SRP, i think you'd be better off with Extra Gloss Protection after the SRP, as it's a sealent (similar to a wax) and will make the SRP's finish last longer.

Just bear in mind that EGP doesnt bond to UDS..

After that just apply your tyre dressing and any other extra detail products you have.

decided to change up the kit I've got and go for the following instead!

B&Q do a 110v orbital unit for £25, for tht it has to be worth a try!

-Meguires #80 and #83

-Lake country orange, white and black pads

-keeping the AG EGP

-Keeping the AG shampoo

Sounds good! Id definately clay the car though if your gonna be using a machine polisher and read up on them first. I've got a kestral das6 polisher comin today and I'm still a bit weary on using it even after reading all the guides.

It might still be worth the SRP as a finish finish polish as those 2 megs ones are quite abrasive, I've ordered those 2 myself, along with some menzerna final finish to use before poorboys blackhole glaze and dodo juice wax.

nice, I was thinking of using the megs #83 on a Lake country orange pad and megs #80 on a white pad.

You still think #80 is quite abrasive? I've heard it was quite subtle? maybe i should finish up with some megs #205 finishing polish on a grey lake country pad to complete the polish then place on the AG EGP after??

The #80 is rated at 4/10 cut so I'm definately using a final finish after that, the Menz is rated at 2/10..

Just make sure you've got enough pads and a suitable one for each product, and start off with the lightest abrasive..
