so yeah i changed the head gasket and now my car wont go over 90mph. doesnt bother me as i never go tht fast but would this make it lack in acceleration?

it did go over 90 befor i did the gasket, I'm thinking it could be the valve timing or dizzy timing?

or it might just be the exhaust being broke? any ideas??

Most likely the camshaft is a tooth out from before the head job ^^^^^^^

The dizzy is run off the cam, so check the ignition timing. If its out there's a good chance the cam is out like Red Indian said.

Compound gaskets crush over time,so there are certain changes made after a new one is fitted.

As said above,the only way to get the ignition timing correct is by re-timing it,as the cam position has changed a fraction and the previous marking wont be spot-on the new position.

But also,if you didn't get the head skimmed,or even if you got a light skim,you may well have a fractionally lower compression ratio now - this will correct itself as the gasket settles.

I also agree with the cam timing being a tooth out. A tooth advanced,in fact. If so,you'd actually notice a slight increase in low end power,but you loose more of your top end - resulting in a lower top speed.

Sounds like you need to recharge your flux capacitor!

True. Have had a cat break on my brothers fiesta rs1800i. It wouldnt go past 4000rpm

It's a safeguard feature on the new gaskets, it kicks in a 87 to stop you going back to the future. It was originally intented for Sciroccos but implemented across the range.

Make sure your valve timing isn't a few teeth out.

thanks guys, checked the dizzy and it was fine. engine is running a bit rich atm so think it is a tooth out. will report back when checked lol
