1.3 mk2 golf engine in 1.0mk3 polo

Featured Replies

I'm fed up with my 1l engine it has an anoying problem. i now want to get rid, and stick a 1.3 mk2 golf engine in.

is it a fairly easy swap? has it been done?

any info at all on this change would be great!!!

i have looked already and not had much luck. all i found is that any thing bigger than a 1.3 is not worth doing...

any info please!!!!!

the MH/2G from a mk2 golf can be bolted straight into a mk2 polo, engine, carb everything but the downpipe. the mk3 will require you to convert the engine to spi/mpi or keep the shoddy carb. personally i'd save up and change the car.

there is nothing wrong with a 1.4 or 1.6 conversion, but theres a little bit more work involved. theres a 1.4/1.6 conversion thread in the FAQ

personally i'd save up and change the car.

This sounded a little harsh, for the sake of 10hp and a bit of torque a 1.3 engine conversion from a carb engined car isnt the one to go for. an AAV engine to replace you AAU will be no problem at all, the MH/2G will need the 1.3 single point injection system with it rather than the pierburg carb.

1.4 abd from a golf mk3 is a good way to go. Are you sure you cant fix your "annoying problem" with yours

*got a 1.3 golf mk2 engine for sale. :)

mayb if i explain the problem someone may help me fix it. (easier than swapin engine?)

well basicaly its a 1L single point... doesent matter if engine is cold or warm, but if you switch the engine on, the car will idle fine. now the problem as soon as you touch the throttle the car has a mind of its own (still in neutral), the revs go up and drop constantly even if you hold your foot down slightly.

another prblem is when my dad drives the car it has randomly cut out on him when movin at speed. the first time this happened we wer doing 40mph and it jst cut out. he tried bump starting it, but nothing. we pulled over, and the engine started first time by the key.

bit more info if this helps, when idleing badly, the black box on the carb thing is constantly pushing open the throtle. this is causing the car to idle badly but i am unsure as to how to sort this out???????????

i personaly think its an eletrical problem.

Have you tried a throttle body clean & running injector cleaner through the tank. Theres a guide on here somewhere telling you how to do it without disconnecting the throttle electrics.

The other thing you could try is an ecu reset. You need to disconnect the battery for at least 30 mins. (Make sure you have any radio CODES befroehand).

After reconnecting, the car will take a couple days of driving to re-learn the engine map. You could also try connecting up to vagcom for any error codes.

Revs could be vacuum leak.

Cutting out could be rust in the tank blocking fuel.

I have a 1.0. Now i know that the mk2 golf engine will drop in. I might be able to get a mk2 golf engine pretty cheaply. Now i have a gt camshaft. Do i need a fuel pump to run with it. What downpipe should i run and finally. What ecu do i need?
