OK so I'm really hating my polos wheels at the moment. It was the previous owner who put them on, personally I would have rather had the stock steelies over these:

Thought I would improve them slightly with some pikey stickers off ebay...

But they still look terrible and I really can't afford to replace them at the moment. Just wondering if you guys think it would be worth painting them for now? If so, what colour?

Maybe white or grey (anthracite) would look good. I'm gonna redo the wheels on the mk4 when i get a chance but i'm not giving away my ideas!

Thanks for the suggestions guys, given me something to think about.

I'll have a play with some photos this week (although I suck at PS) and then hopefully I can get them sprayed up in study leave. Will give me an excuse to escape revision lol.

Also, I have a question about the actual painting process... Will I have to take the tyres off to paint the wheels, or can I just let some air out and kinda push them down out of the way? I don't think I would manage to get them off and back on myself.

No you just mask round the edges of the lip, masking tape will fit in the gap then cover the rest with newspaper.

I personally wouldn't bother with spraying them.

Everytime I have sprayed my wheels it has cost me about £25 in materials, and I've done them twice in the last year, so that's £50

May aswel save up for alloys. The idea of red rim against black won't look great on a red car. Best bet, if you want to spray, is to go all black or grey. Or, because they are shitty wheels do something wild like I did and do them lime green or something until you get your alloys.

You don't need to do that. The masking tape will fit perfectly between the tyre and the rim without letting any air out at all.

I like to put in a bit of effort when i do a set of wheels and don't

mind putting in that bit of extra work to get them looking right.

Aye thats what i ment thats how i have mine as i say thats what i reken suits a red car well, i went through diff styles b4 ending up thinking that looks best. But end of day its you are car just do what you think is right innit

Big improvement, I think that could work and not cost a fortune.

But at the same time I am not sure how it will look on a red car..if your bump strips are black and maybe tinted windows i.e. red and black theme going on, this could be coolio!

Just done this quickly...

I think it looks pretty good, despite everything else on the car being stock.
