i know theres no clear lines on this, i know theres speculation everywhere on wether just the tread has to be under the arch etc, but i got pulled and could of got some points from a cop just now because of my poke.

got pulled over for my 8 inch rears sticking out to much past the arch, what can i do? i have a mk3 gt coupe and it doesnt have the plastic arch trims on, I'm hoping i can get hold of some and that they add enough width somehow, does anyone know how much width those little plastic gt/g40 arch trims add??please help x

Very much doubt the arch trims will help mate. You're gunna need some arch work.

could someone please tell me why the plod have a problem with poke anyways??. I understand about the tread having to be under the arch as it reduces spray when the ground is wet so does not cause a hazard for the driver behind, but what is the plods problems with poke providing that tread is under the arch?

dude, my 8's stuck out further than that and i ran them for 5 months before being pulled, the only reason the guy wasnt happy with them is because there were scuff marks from my tyre on there. also ranted on about some bullshit such as if i hit someone, my arch wouldnt deflect them and they'd be dragged under my car.

*roads are for cars, not people.

*my wing mirrors should bounce anyone past my rear wheels if they were to jump into the side of my car.

seems like the filth are cracking down on useless and seemingly unharmful stuff at the moment, cant find anytihng better to do perhaps.

the cop said that if it hit someones leg it could be dangerous..... my plan is to put some 7js on the rear i think, I'm not gona widen the arches or anything. i wish there was a clear guideline on this rule. i remember reading in a forum that someone had printed off a sheet of paper stating that as long as the tread is under its legal, dont think any ever got a copy though but if anyone has anything useful like it I'm sure i wouldnt be the only one who wants a copy. anyway, I'm off to run to the sun!

just started making some arches for the rear...interesting time, will get some pics up off whats going down this eve. run to the sun this afternoon, hopefully wont get hassled by the fuzz down there, I'm sure everyone will be low and wide...eek!

My mate has a vr6 mk3 with porsche gt2 split rims that are 10.5 on the rear and 9.5's on the front and he got stopped because they stuck out too much. and their reason for it was it could pull down a person. HAHA what a load of crap eh? :-D

adding some wide arch steez to the rear... dont get scared. stainless steel, gonna be moulded into body work slightly and sprayed white obv....but give it a chance haha.

F*** me sideways dude... they will do more damage to someones leg than your wheels will..!

made them myself, shouldnt do anywhere near as much damage as they have stainless steel rod welded round edge and they dont spin like wheels do.

they do look pretty dangerous? can you not get your wheels under without? or make them fit?

camber shims mean the wheel is still sticking out, i dont think they will be as dangerous....

Good effort but they just look stupid imo.

They stick out too much and don't follow any of the body work on the rest of the car

BUT, if you do more modifying, ie a lot of arch work and some moving around you could actually get them to look good

You need to pull the arches right out, then line the new arches up (sloping down more and not just sticking straight out) and you could be onto a winner!

yeh i know what your saying, think I'm going to get some 7 x 13's for the rear, but they still stick out a tiny bit! do ats classics 7x 13 only come with one et?

in all honesty mate it doesnt look like you poke that much, id say your boarderline illegal. POLOMON is right! camber shims mate, dont lose the 8's!!! You can get a set for £20, come to think of it drewbar has some that he couldnt fit on his 9N. it should give you up to -1.5 degrees which should make you sit just under the arch! plus it'l look pretty sweet
