even tho some of these cars being scrapped are classics doesn't mean they were any good, for all we know they were probably shafted and worth next to nothing, i'd even hazard a guess at the trim level of the 300zx, non turbo auto and worth jack shit, especially if they are trading it in for an Hyundai

McLOVIN I reckon your spot on, running a car to high mileage responsibly re-cycling from others. I've used parts from about 10 other polo's and have stripped an entire car and about to weight the steel in and other bits at the scrappy. I've only driven for five years on generally short country runs and rarely fly to the sun. Does that not make me green?

There's many other arguments to be had like the fact that there is pure ignorance in the public about how to look after a car and the fact that new cars are so complex to diagnose let alone contemplate fixing.

This scheme is STUPID for a number of reasons.

1) Generally people who drive cars that are 9 or 10 years old drive them because they CAN'T afford a new car. This scheme should have been aimed at people who buy new every three years, but have been put off recently. They should have been given £2000 on top of their trade-in.

All these people with their old cars, thinking "I'm getting £2K". No you're not! You're getting yourself into debt scapping a perfectly good car. How many people are taking out loans for these new cars because they've 'saved' 2 grand?

2) From an environmental point of view as Maccoll says. Running an old car into the ground has got to be more economical than the energy used to make a new car. Ok, new cars are mostly made from recycled material these days, but it's the energy used to convert these into dashboards, body parts, etc.

The problem is the entire economy is based on people being bad to the environment. Energy costs money and money makes the world go round. The more energy you save, the more money you save and the more you damage the economy. The two things are completely incompatible.

not necessarily my pedigree chum. you can't just go out and buy a £50 bagashit then trade it in, it has to be a car you have owned for at least a year so it shouldn't affect used car prices as its only worth 2k if the person selling it wants to trade it in and if that's the case it won't be for sale

At the end of the day, the majority of people in this world, just want a nice reliable car to get them from A to B and if there current car isn't providing that, then 2k off something newer that could cost them less in repairs etc in the long run is going to seem like a damn good deal to them.

Something we see as a classic, being enthusiasts and all, just looks like a pain in the arse banger to the general population.

I reckon that once the cars are traded in they should offer them for free or a small price to enthusiasts who would actually get them back on the road in good working condition. Although that'd never happen, at least Gordon Brown and his gang of bumbandits will be voted out very soon.

Deffo, been well looking into £2k(ish) 2002's, free tax, old skool steez and "correct" wheel drive.

Road tax merely pays for "policing" and they can't get half of those noshers to sort out motoring issues rather than pulling people over becuase they're going a "suspicious" way home or some bullshit.

The greens even agree with the petrol-heads on keeping cars on the roads for longer,especially when parts and technology are offered to help keep them maintained and thus improve their emissions.

But we dont have greens or petrol-heads in power. We have greed-motivated globalist capitalist business people,who see us as batteries. And they answer to no public status,including any of the attacks against them from seemingly all sides - only blagging us with excuses for their actions,to make them seem legitimate,and generate the support of those daft enough to buy it.

They'll stay in power too - they've wormed the last two elections on the workings of a highly flawed voting system,and it'll happen again because people dont know how to vote properly.
