Like where your oil cooler is. I'd move mine there if I had the room (intercoolers in the way :( ).

shit mate, just problem after problem. its about time it came together tbh, picking up a new engine soon so i will have the base for my G40 conversion to start while my car is driving.

i have had to put the saloon on hold while i sort my coupe, which tbh is really depressing. seeing it sat on the deck feeling sorry for its self...it will be on the road (regardless of looks and without the G40 engine in it) by august. but the coupe my deadline is 1st 2 weeks of feb.

Aww just read through this and cant believe how busy you have been. Was sad to see this car go but at least i can see it is going to be looked after and is being looked after!!

Hopefully get to see it at some of the shows this year!!

Its just how it goes mate lol. Things always get in the way and its hard to stick to deadlines but hopefully it will all come together. Getting the G40 done would be good. Hopefully will be on the road soon mate.

Thanks she is being looked after very well, but could do with a wash ha.

Also thought Id report my first break down :(. As I pulled into a petrol station the driveshaft popped out of the cv joint. So once I filled up and put it into gear it didnt go anywhere lool. So got a toe home, sorting it out tomorrow. Anoying but not too anoyed as could have been worse.

My alternator pulley on the toothies doesnt have a woodruff key so ill have to take a standard one somewhere to get it machined out. Quite strange but not a big problem.

AWT intercooler. I'd say it's taller than wider. Think there's a pic in my thread.

Ok, so Last summer I finished all the hard work and time I put into converting my GT into the G40 it is today. This was all with the hope that I would enjoy the this summer in it, however, this is not the case. the shell is jsut too tired and I do think that it just did the engine any justice, even though it still made people frown from the lights and gave even those that i was racing G-smiles because they got to see the amazing flames it was shooting off when i shot past them lol.

Anyway, I was on the hunt for a new shell to work on and one night my mate randomly text me saying he has found my next car. and he sent me a picture of (drum role please)... a mk2 loon. He randomly got talking to his mate who was coincidently going to sell his loon. So I kept an open mind and thought lets have a look, although I hadnt really seen or taken an interest in the loons until now. When we got to it, must say I fell in love . Did some research, and thought what the hell, lets try something new. Wont be easy but I'm up for some sweat.

Picked it up, drove it home, it had a really loud rumbling front bearing so was hoping it wouldnt lose a wheel on the way home. Soon as I got back, stuck my Wheels on it!

Its a C reg 1986 White loon. Absolutly mint shell.. sills were fine, door hinges werent hanging, interior is mint, has original windows all round apart from one of the little triangle windows in the drivers door. still not bad going. the doors are mint. The inside of the boot looks factory clean. I have service stamps in the book from 1987, 1989, 1990, 1992, and the rest was stuff that the owner did before the guy owned it before me.

The only bad bits are that it needs 2 new wings because the dude I bought it from had to mod them a bit to fit his huuuuuge wheels lol. and there are a few chips but that will all be sorted once it gets an outside spray. Also the battery tray has some slight corrosion but its tiny and can easily be repaired.

I bought it on Friday 30 April, and on sunday I had swapped the struts with my ones off my g40 so that it has the decent suspension and good bearings. Also have put my G40 brakes and lines in today...

i have to say, when i had my loon, i was g40ing it, but times change. so glad someone is doing this.

car looks good. dont think the white does it justice though. only white mk2 loon i know of thts a looker is he one on here wi the wide arches. but u may change my mind! lol

haven't updated for a little while now because I haven't had anything done to the loon, but it has now been at a body shop that my friend works at to have a tidy up. The body had a few very small bumps and scrapes and a little surface rust on the rear arches. Also I needed to change the wings and have them resprayed. I'm not putting back rear or front bumpers so all holes and stuff was filled ont he front and rear. basically ended up getting stripped down and filled and outside resprayed. So, here are some pictures of some of the work that was carried out to give an idea where it is at right now. I'm due to collect it on monday, very excited!

this loon's coming on a treat!

With the g40 conversion taking place after the respray I need to fit an intercooler. So firstly I sourced an intercooler. From its size I thought the Cosworth intercooler would be best to fit and would do what Id want it to. I was going to cut it myself but then I thought, hmmm, probably not the best idea to start butchering the panel after a respray. So i kindly asked the lads at the body shop to measure up, and make up a nice little whole for me after we decided where I wanted it. They also said they would move the radiator over for me so that the boost pipe would have room. They did a good job of it. Welded in some steel bars and drilled some threaded holes for support and mounting.

The picture with the intercooler in the hole isnt how it will look, I just pushed it in the hole to get an idea of how it will look but it will actually sit against the body work where you can see the little bracket plate things. So will still poke out a touch love it!

thanks guys, I'm just going to put up the pics of it painted. It was finished today with some small touches done, my friend sent me over some pics on my phone. So am definatly collecting monday.

When I recieved these pictures on my phone today I was at work and they put the biggest smile on my face because I was overly pleased with what its looking like. Hope its as good in the flesh. One of the wings reacted so he had to respray that and is putting it back on with some small touches being done, but nothing major.

The hole you see just under the rear number plate is to fit a little bracket and light that they boys took off an OLD Talbot as a little retro mod to light up the number plate because the original ones are on the bumper.

THE LAST PIC IS MY MOST FAVOURITE - The lads moved the indicators from the front bumper and mounted them into the grill, looks the nuts in my eyes ha.

Tbh, I've never been much of a loon fan but thats because I've never given them much thought but this should be quite good :)

The owner of the white loon with big arches is stealth.

I was the same mate. But when I went to see this before I bought it i fell in love haha. Once this is done, the engine is next but while I'm doing the engine I will order the role cage. So hopefully by the end of July it will be caged. I haven't seen this big arched loon but I am thinking of maybe going for some big arches with a nice spliter to match all riveted up, but that is in the future and depending if I can find some wheels that I like that will fill the big arches ha.
