Not sure of a price,but they cost around fifty quid,plus the rod bolts,six driveshaft bolts and sump gasket takes it to about seventy,then it'll take about two hours labour with fag breaks.

Worth doing? Well,that depends if the old ones are shot or not. If so,it'll prevent catastrophic engine failure. But if not,its absolutely pointless.

Remember,new ones must be run-in ultra carefully - light throttle for a few hundred miles. Or bigga baaada boom.

depends on the quality of the car but you can pick up a 1.8 8v lump for about 50 quid lol i know what id rather do?

good condition low millage 1.3 lumps can be picked up for peanuts because people replace them with bigger engines, would be easier and cheaper than changing the big end shells. unless you really enjoy playing with engines? if so it probably is worth it, you get to have fun getting oily and you know that's one less thing that's gonna go wrong in the future.

remember as well that the polo engines fit too so doner engines are plentiful
