Around my parts the only way you can get a new vw is through a porsche/vw dealership, and they have a nasty habit of putting stickers on cars. The problem is that on my 11 year old car the sticker fell apart and turned brown. Nasty nasty. I had a go at it with a hairdryer and managed to remove the black letters and most of the brown sticker. What I'm left with is apparently 11 year old glue:

This isn't pleasing to the eye and I can't get it off! I've tried:

-a ton of heat from the hairdryer

-cleaning petrol(excuse the language gap here)

-a tiny dash of 2000 wet and dry

Nothing seems to get it off. I've even dared to use a bit of paint remover on a piece of cloth and rubbing on the white spots only. But it just wouldn't budge.

does anybody have any clue on how to try and remove it?

You can get stuff called sticky stuff remover, just spray it on and leave it for 5 mins, works really well. I used it to remove mine. have a look in halfords or on't internet

I bought and used autoglym intensive tar remover to take off the foam and glue from my removed bump strips. It's awesome stuff, disolved all the gunk and wiped it off with a cotton cloth.

Highly recommended, and only a fiver from Halfrauds

if i was you try the autoglym sounds about the best. when you done it let me know cos i have fox in white sticker on my bready.

I bought bug and tar remover for mine and its done sweet fuck all!!

I've been using white spirit and a credit card and its coming off slowing.

Ill have to grab that autoglym shizz.

Sorry, forgot to mention that I tried tar and resin remover, no dice. Also tried WD40.

Next up is t-cut, which I think might actually do the trick, because it's very smooth on touch and I think it's not glue what I'm looking at, but very very faded paint.

X2 - Cellulose thinners. Halfreds sell it in little grey cans. Its obviously cheaper to buy it in 5L cans from paint shops if you use it regularly.

Dont go at it for long else it'll clean off the paint,but you wont have to anyway - it'd clean spots off a tiger.

at the weekend halfords had a 3 for 2 on all car cleaning products

i use Autoglym intensive tar remover and its the best product on the market at removing old stickers and rubber from your car

i had a mark on the rear quarter of my mk2 coupe i believe it was from a push bike i used Autoglym intensive tar remover on it and that removed it it wasn't fast but the mark had been there for some time

Well, this is shit. It's not glue. It's well past that. It's not paint either. The white bit is primer. I'll be doing some painting tommorow so depending on the outcome of that I might do this bit. Or cover it with another sticker.

That no, but I did have a paint expert take a look at it today because I was there(mixed up some paint to brush on the stone chips) and he took a good look and said it's not glue anymore. That's why I'm doubtful it'll work. And the fact that we don't have a halfords round here. Not from the UK...

Might give it a go if I can find it somewhere. I think I might have seen some autoglym products in the shop I was at today, but I'm not sure... But I doubt it'll work if sanding it down didn't work.

Painting is an option. Another option is putting another sticker in that place.

Another option is just leaving it, but it sure looks ugly.

In any case a fiver for some tar remover is cheaper and better than paint.

You keep complaining about what's wrong and what needs doing etc but you haven't tried what we said yet!

I doubt the area behind the sticker has worn through so many layers of paint down to the primer.

The only thing I haven't tried is autoglym stuff, all the other advice I have used. I'm only mentioning what else I've tried.

But in any case, I'll rather try out ALL the suggestions first rather than bitch and whine some more.

And I also apologise for jumping to conclusion so quickly, so I'll give it another go, dig around shops and ebay!

id give a fudge wheel a try because if its not through the paint it wont fail. i can't see how it would have got through the paint but if it has and its primer your looking at t cut wnt help. it will have to be painted.
