Changing a car on a policy

Featured Replies

Hey guys, have just got a Polo 6N and want to get it insured.. here is the low-down.

I am currently insured on a beetle which I own. I passed my test in January 2008 and became a named driver on my mum's policy for a year until January 2009 so license has been held for 1 year but I have no NCB. I then bought a policy of my own in Jan 2009 (to start earnin NCB). I went with Kwik Fit and paid £1300 for a year (I am main driver with my dad as named) so I am about half way through it by now. Having now got the Polo, I want the beetle taken off the road for a few years to restore etc and to use the Polo as my daily driver.

So I asked Kwik Fit for an annual quote for a Polo and the price given was £2402. I have asked other companies and been getting £1669 (Zurich), £1809 (Insure Your Motor) and £1875 (Churchill) - much cheaper. These quotes were all done online on the respective companies' own websites. Now it's obvious that I will be paying a ridiculous amount more if i stay with Kwik Fit but the trouble is I don't want to have to wait 6 months for my policy to end and if I cancel my current policy with them, what happens in terms of NCB? Will I be able to carry over my 6 months of No Claims with my Kwik Fit policy which I will then cancel to buy another policy with a different company?

I can see it is going to be rape if I stay with Kwik Fit but I really can't afford to wait another year from now to start benefitting from a 1 year No Claims Bonus. And I definately can't afford to buy a separate policy for the Polo either!

I hope I explained this well enough, if anyone can shed some light on what would happen in my situation I would be very grateful :D

Much obliged,

Chris

I dont really know, but the best advise i could give is to ring quick-fit and ask them. let them know that their quote is stupid and your going to go to a different company, and they will drop the price...in theory.

Good advice, insurance companies want your business, if you take a like for like quote to them they might be able to do something for you.
