I have mentioned in another thread that i am looking at getting some simple, inexpensive, nonobtrusive alloys. There are two types that catch my eye and i want to ask about them....before I get started i am REALLY sorry if these are stupid questions, but i really don't know a lot at all about tyres and wheels, and know absoloutley nothing about putting different types on ...anyway here goes:

I have seen a lot of 6n polos about with simple 5 spoke alloys that have a black sticker in the middle saying "Sport". As far as I know they are 13" and they take the same tyre as the standard 6n Steelie.....these seem suitable for my needs...but I cant find many as i dont know the manufacturer or anything! Are these commonplace? Cant hey be fitted straight onto my Polo?....sorry if noone knows the wheels I'm talking about, I can try and take a picture or something of a polo with them on if that helps

Secondly I was looking at these Halfords Rispeed ones....OK so I wont be surprised if everyone says they're naff, but like i say I'm just looking for a nice cheap simple set. Also i figure the speedo will need recalibrating as the size difference will effect the reading....who can do this...is it even possible?...any ideas how much it may be?

And with those ripspeed ones would ideally need 195/45 tyres to be closer to the original ratio and keep the speedo accurate (well as accurate as they are)

Don't get the Halfords wheels. I know you want them because they are cheap, but for the same price you could get some decent second hand ones. I learnt not to buy something for the sake of it just because you can't afford what you really want.

With regards to the speedo, don't worry about it. 15" really won't affect a car which in some specs came with 14" wheels, and plus, the speedo is way out as standard anyway. With the larger reading your speedo will tell you that your going faster than you actually are, so not a problem.

Not a fan of wheels with multi fitting holes all over the place. makes them look very cheap.

13's are ok, but a bit on the small side for that style of wheel. I have 15's (6 spoke) and wouldnt go any bigger than that. would recommend 14 or 15 inch. Check out ebay. Anything that fits a vauxhall, VW, Seat or Rover should do (there are more but cannot think off top of head) but you will find loads of second hand alloys that will fit. Check out local part worn place as they often have rims going cheap, or a scrap yard.

As for the tyre diameter- check this out:

You put in the dimensions of your current tyre, then the dimensions of the new tyre, and you can see the difference in diameter. Play around with it a bit until you get a tyre that will fit on your new rims, with a close match to the diameter of the tyres on your original steelies.
