Right, my coilovers have finally come (thanks PhilJ), but long story short, i have no idea how to fit them, and i cant find a how to guide either...does anyone know how i can fit them ? like how easy/how long would it take ? is there a DIY Guide floating around anywhere ?

Detailed Guide, if your good with tools and can do D.I.Y then go for it, i had alot of trouble with mine as i wasnt sure what parts to use and what parts went where etc etc even with the guide i went in totally clueless but managed to do it in a couple of days which i had spare and a few trips to halfords to get the right tools

u probz need to air gun the bolts out, as i had to on the fronts....

pop into style and theyll do it for u...

but piece of piss did myn in couple hours, with the help of the style dynamix boys.

Yea man thats what i needed drill with the 18mm attachment to get the dam bolts off i strugled to get them off my self >.<, easy enough though mate once you know how just make sure you get the tracking done soon as!

are seriously an easy job. with the bearings, top mounts etc, just put them on the coilovers exactly how you took them off the original stuff.

for the 18mm bolts a breaker bar will work, just use a spanner or another socket to hold the bolt so it doesn't spin.

Its ok for everyone saying its an easy job but if your never done it before then it it difficult to say the least, but long as your have the right tools you should be fine and I'm sure we can all help incase you get stuck.

Cheers for all the replies, I'm probably gonna give this a go next week, some mates from uni might help me out, I've been told the rear coilies are easier to do than the fronts

so what exactly do i need to keep from the old shock/mountings and put onto the new one ?

yeah I've read that, checked my mounts just now, like just to see how everything will go and where everything is...BUT...how the fudge do you get the top plastic cap off in the front ?...i cant get it off so i dunno the state of my nut (allen key one), could be rusted and split like the one in the tutorial but does anyone know how to get the plastic cap off ? I've tried everything i can, and all I've managed to do is dig into the plastic cap and scratch it

just done the coilies on my 6n2 matey and i just cut the plastic caps off with a stanley they were just doing my head in after a while and thought feck it, not only that, but if you ever need to get to the top mounts do you really want the hassle of getting them off again?? just cut them off, dont really serve any purpose.

Forget payin 120 to fit them.

For that money ontop of the cost of the philj kit you could have got yourself some better branded ones.

Also, you will need your tracking and camber setting up after that, which is about another 50, so that's 170 quid of fitting.

I'm sure somoene in the area will be willing to help you out for a few beer tokens mate.

Mine came with two spanners because on each strut there is a small ring and a large ring.

You should get two spanners though, because you need to use both together to free up and tighten the rings, otheriwse they would just spin with each other.

I've got some mateys from uni that are gonna help me sometime next week and plus i need a jack and axle stands off them lol...cba to use the standard jack and i dunno where I've put it, when i took it out of the car when i got the sub lol, but anyway, i think my coilover kit only came with one C-Spanner, well thats all i saw when i unwrapped everything, but i guess ill find out properly on tuesday/wednesday hopefully when i start the coilover fitting lol..ill keep y'all posted

its easier than you make it out to be matey. It can seem quite dawnting if youve never done it but really is a bag of piss. Only experience I've had with lowering a car is fitting lowerin springs and adjusting a torsion bar and that was far harder than fitting coilies. youl be suprised at how quickly you will get it done.

Rightt...Three coilies are on...about 80% done, taking a break and gonna carry n tomorrow

basically its taken 9 hours to get all three coilies on and undoo the lower two bolts on the front passenger side of the car...constantly been running into problems!!!

now the major problem is...the top nut, I've managed to get the drivers side one off with not TOO mcuh trouble

but the passenger side top nut is taking the piss, it just wont budge, does anyone know the exact size of the top nut ?...with a deep impact socket its 21mm with a ratchet spanner its 19mm... and i cant find a cranked ring spanner anywhere!

but atleast its getting there...the coilies have been tightened up to about 4 threads and i can just about get my hand in between the tire and the arch will post up pics when it is complete!!!...but its defineately getting there!!!

URGENT QUESTION!!...just been reading about, and calling a few different people but when fitting the front coilovers, the old suspension just split apart and the bearings just flew everywhere

do i need to get a new bearing and mount ? I'm confused becuase i dont know what i need off the old suspension for the front...URGENT HELP NEEDED!!

at the moment, the back ones are on, need a bit of adjusting coz they dont sit flush, but anyway what do i need off the old front suspension to put onto the new front suspension ?..if its the bearings off the old one and the casing, then I'm fucked, because i dont have that anymore, it all just blew apart, but i rang a couple of people and they said the same happened to them and they didn't need it after...i need some urgent help on this!!

does anyone know where i can get the bearings from if i need them ? part number ? and how much they cost rougly ?

the coilovers are a complete replacement part so the only bit you need from the old suspension is the rubber top mounts.

can anyone get a picture for me please ? and I'm stuck, i cant get the other strut off...

bascially when the old strut came off the drivers side it just flew to peices the bearings flew out and some of the housing flew out, plastic bits also flew out, all that was left was the top mount what i believe is a rubber mounting under it, I'm seriously stuck now...i dont know how I'm going to do the next strut

three of us have tried to get the nut off...cant do shit =(...anyone wanna come and give it a go ?

go to a tyre shop and air gun it off told u itll prob b tight

above is right.

fit one side, find a nearby tyre place, get it air gunned loose then drive home carefully.

question to add to to this,on the front shocks do use use the original spring cap and place it on the blue top plate of new ones or just fit the bearing and mount on the blue cap?ask this as theres varying instructions and i used the original cap,should i have?

i wanna know this too...are you talking about the bearings ? and the bearing housing

strut has come off now, waiting for weather to get better and then i can carry on with fitting the last coilover!
