ok i have a problem, i had my new AP coilovers fitted yesterday at my garage. went to pick it up they had lowered it 40mm but i want more, so jacked the car up, took the wheel off, unscrew the allen key bolts and tryed to spin it down with the c spanner. but it wont budge cant move it to save my life.

anyone got any advice, if not I'm gonna have to take it back to the garage see what they say

Try a hammer and screwdriver in one of the adjuster grooves just to start it off then use the C spanner.

well i have tried hitting the c spanner with a hamer got half a turn but them wouldnt got with that

Hope the garage copper greased the threads did they?

get some serious wd40 loving on it then put the c spanner on then hit it with hammer, if its still stuck try going the opposite way to try and break the seal

Are the two rings locked onto each other? If so are you sure your not accidentally tightening them? You need to use both spanners in opposite directions to free them.

no there is only one ring, i really dont know what to do, do you think there is to much pressure on the spring for it to move. i have got the backs to move just the fronts now

That's strange. Coilovers are supposed to have two rings which you lock into each other when you have the set height, hence two c-spanners

well they only gave me 1 c spanner i will take a picture of it. but i have to be doing somthing wrong

Coilovers are ment to have two adjuster rings on each shock so you can lock the height in place.

What make are they?

Did they come with 2 adjuster rings or did you just hand the box to the garage?

they are AP coilovers. I'm sure there is only one ring, there is a little allen key screw on the ring which locks them in place. and it only came with one spanner check the box first

Are these the ones you've got? They're different to normal coilovers as these have only one ring whereas the normal ones have two

yeah there the ones, you can see on the picture between the two holes for the c spanner there is an aleen key screw that locks them, i have undone that but still no movement

everyone who has posted expected that you had the other type of coilovers with the two rings like these

I wouldn't know what to suggest then, did they grease the threads when they were fitted? but then again they shouldn't be seized after only one day even if they weren't greased sorry.

Those AP ones seem a bit of a flaud design. Looks like only one of those holes has a grub screw, the rest go through to the threads?

Surely once some dirt gets in there when you try and turn the ring the dirt will just cause resistance locking it in place?

Have you tried taking the grub screw all the way out? Sure they haven't fitted more than one screw?

Bad design, how would you loosen the grub screw if the ring is twisted round to the back?

I assume the grub screw can be removed and put into any of those holes. You would just use the one nearest the front once the height is set.

no the four holes for the c spanner dont go though to the threads one the threaded one for the grub screw one and thats the only one thats threaded. so they should move but they dont. the only thing left that could be doing this is the pressure on the spring, therefore to much pressure on the ring for it to move, but i can twist the spring so i dont think that will be it.

i may just losen the bolt at the top under the bonnet good idea?

but least our cheapo ones diddent seize :p

if they are still stuck you are just gonna have to keep bashing untill they give in which is a shame on new coilies

loosening the top bolt is no use until you are going to take the coily off the car and then try and free it up

Does the grub screw tighten directly on the body of the shock where the threads are? If so the garage might have tightened them too much and damaged the thread on the shock body hence not being able to move it???

yeah i no thats what I'm thinking, but the grub screw wasnt that tight really and the backs move fine can twist them with my hand
