Installed my amp wired too 2 x 200w subs on sunday. Driving home today from work there was no bass so went round to the boot and the red light is on and the subs aren't working at all. Any ideas?

protect , basically means the amp has gone in to safe mode

what size amp are you running to power the subs?

is it 4 or 2 channel amp?

Running a 500w max output amp to 2 x 200w subs.

2 channel amp.

Is the amp buggered?

you could be overloading it , I'm no expert in this ,

but a quick google came back with this

1. Try to determine the cause. Amp's can go into protection mode for several reasons. Knowing what happened before it cut out can help determine how to fix it. Did the amp not work as soon as it was turned on? Did it happen after blasting for hours (may be thermal overload and it needs to cool)? Did it cut out after you hit a bump (a wire connection may have come loose)?

2. Tear it down. Get the amp down to it's most basic state. Remove all of the speaker wiring and RCA wiring and leave only the power, ground and remote leads connected. If you still have a problem in this state then either your amp is defective

Thanks. I cant be overloading the amp if I'm running 2 x 200w off it. Could I be overloading subs though?

Will have a look in the morning, I'll see if its working all right and if it's not I'll strip it down.

You need to take the ground wire off and sand it down then reattach the ground wire

But would a dodgy ground wire cause it to protect, , i didnt think it would have

Right went out today and the amp wasn't in protection mode. Then bout two mins later it was. Away to sort the ground cable, but if it was dodgy surely it would have done this before now?

Behind the left rear light, there is a bolt you can attach to the ground wire

Probably sound like a numpty but how can I attach the ground wire to it. Btw it looks like it is the ground wire thats the problem.

Use a ring terminal to connect it to the screw

Regrounded the wire, checked all the connections to the amp and still not working. Any advice?

overheating? try unplugging 1 sub and see what happens
