Ok, so had the 6n polo for a month or so now, but never took it out at night!

Last night stick the lights on..... lights all work fine. But the dash lights dont come on! Epic fail!

The dash lights that light the dials dont work, the backlite clocks dont light up, and the heater controls dont. Nothing lights up, so i suppose that rules out a bulb or 2.

I have checked the fuses but they all look ok from what i can see, although i dont have a haynes manual for a polo.

Any ideas what it could be?

The radio works but doesnt remember the stations, which is obviously the battery live, but dont think thats a connected issue?

Check the fuse 27 it's a 5amp fuse

Theres only 22 fuses mate? They all ok as well.

Its a 1995 6n 1.3

probly sounds daft but have you turned the dashlight adjuster to full?its a little wheel on the right hand side near headlight switch

lol, yes mate.

First thing i checked. Its my gfs polo you see, i have mk3 golf gti, so the same parts pretty much.

I thought maybe the switch or adjuster wheel is broken maybe. But the switch does turn the headlights on.

Haynes manual says fuse 21 (15A) for the interior lights, instrument panel and self diagnostic

Fuse 16 (15A) is for the instrument panel itself... so i figure if its a fuse it'll be number 21

It's rather the adjuster wheel or the bulbs are blown

Does the headlight switch which the adjuster wheel is on, pop out? or is it fixed in some how?

As I'm thinking if its the wheel, i could just pull the 2 wires out of it, and fix them together, so its always on full brightness, rather than using the wheel.

Changed both of the fuses even though they looked ok. When i removed 21 the dash went blank, then when i refitted it, the dials worked again. but still no lights, and same with fuse 16. Both have 15A fuses too.

So going to check the adjuster wheel, but dont know how it comes out, dont want to break it!! lol.

Use a screwdriver and lever it out

Levered it out, and had a look at it with a multi meter, but without a haynes and wiring diagram I'm not sure which pins are for the adjuster? Dont suppose anyone has a haynes to hand and nothing to do :)

Cant find a wiring diagram online.
