Looking at putting an AFH code engine in my mk1 golf (don't hate me!) and was just wondering if anyone has done this or would be kind enough to help me out? :-D

I understandthe engine mounts are the same apart from the front one, which needs fabricating?

I thought running it on bike carbs is the easiest way to do it but i would far prefer something more efficient? Can i run it on the throttle body and how?! Is there a lot of work involved with this e.g. wiring.

Which driveshafts would i use (if either of them fit)?

Which gearbox? Could i just keep mine (it is a 4 speed so the polo one would be better? Although 4 gears is fun )

With regards to wiring, what can i keep from the golf and what do i need from the polo?

Anything else i would need/have to consider? I know clearance can be an issue but thats the least of my problems :-)

So.. parts from the polo..? Just the engine and block, fabricate front mount and run it on bike carbs, salvaging as much of the golfs wiring as possible?!

I am happy to make compromises etc. but i want this to go in easy as possible. This is my first car and to be honest i dont have a clue! Although i am mechanically minded and learn quickly, have changed head gasket, cambelt, water pump etc. on existing engine and got mates that could help me out!!

Yep its been done by a chap on here called Spen. It's in a lemon yellow mk1 golf with chrome bumpers which you may have seen about.

Spen's mk1 gives me wood.

You should be able to keep the full Golf loom and just plug the required Polo parts into it. You could run the standard injection system, you just need to do a bit more research into the requirements of the fuel system.
