I've tried finding a personal reg but basically non are close enough for me to warrant buying one

does anyone know if i can ask them to make one?

if so how do i go about it ? just ring them up?

call dvla. they will know if it is available. they are cheapest for the plates as well when i was buying one a few years ago.

If it's not listed in the search you can't have it. Some older ones come up in the DVLA auctions. Other than that you can get a 'second hand' registration from the various dealers. Always buy direct from the DVLA if you can - the dealers sometimes offer plates for sale that are still with the DVLA. I did a search on one of the dealer sites and it said the private plate currently on my car was available for sale from them!

dont think you can preorder, but pretty sure you wouldnt be able to put a 2012 plate on an older car. :s

but yet theres a car near me with 2 KO! i dont see there problem with making up your own number plate!

You cant put a new reg on an older car, but you can put a 'dateless' plate on any car.

I'm still saving up for '1C' so dont go buying that one!

as mentioned above the reg cant be newer than the car, so if you got a 1996 polo you cant use something like V12 CKY, or VH51 GHT.

Your best and cheaper option might be to change your name. . . . . ?

Or get an irish plate

I want a personalised plate as my current car is my first and i always said to myself to get a erg, and then stick with it for the rest of my life so I'm going with this one: J88 DRR

J = June 1988 and the DRR are my initals. Completely personal to me and cos it doesnt mean anything to anyone else its only 245quid rather then getting one saying "daz" for a grand!!!!!

private plates seem like a good idea but they're a ballache whenever you want to change car, £80 a pop, £105 to put on retention etc

I went on a certain personal plate website,the plate I wanted was GT11AND the gave me a price of a £1,100 + vat! I went straight to the DVLA website & had it for £299+vat bargain!

So go to the DVLA & you can pre- order reg anyway

I had this problem, I wanted N311FLP but when I searched on the website it said it was unavailable, however I scrapped the car 2 years ago with the plate on so I know its not being used!

Probably because the cars been scrapped...
