got home from work today hoping a couple of parcels had arrived during the day but unfortunately not, it looked like i was getting nothing done today so i took my gearbox down to the shed to start cleaning.

i'd just got down there and i got a call saying my other pipe was now ready for collection, so i popped over and collected it, i must say i'm happy how it's turned out,

he replaced the silicon bend and ally joiner pipe with stainless and TIG welded it together

nothing done at the weekend as usual, was busy saturday and was at Dubs at the park meet today before it rained

i did manage to go and collect my steering wheel that should have been posted out to me last week but he refunded postage and went and picked it up. it was raining fairly bad but i still had to fit it.

quick pic of the wheel (with rain drops on it) incase you'd never seen an R32 wheel before....

thanks Dirt monkey and Dale

no real progress of late, still waiting on parts and moneys to buy more parts but today i took a trip to the scrappy to pick up a punto bonnet so i thought i'd have a browse around the vw section. there i saw an immaculate black bora which was complete as it'd only just arrived. it had Y REG written on the side in yellow wax but on closer inspection (a parking permit) was a 52 reg so i got a few goodies.

bora-22510001.jpg

pair of aero wipers, pair of ally bootlid struts and an ally bonnet lifter. also i noticed a mk5 tdi golf which still had the interior so a few mins later had these out

bora-22510003.jpg

i managed to sweet talk my mate at the scrappy, he wanted £40 for the bonnet and a tenner for the rest! so i came home, fitted the punto bonnet - then popped to my mates and fitted a clutch to an octavia tdi.

once that was done i came home and fitted my struts

yesterday i went to my mate Pete's to collect my stainless heatshield for the bulkhead.

i gave him a cardboard cut out of the shape i wanted him to make into a stainless shield, even got my protractor out to make sure the creases were bent to the correct angle.

well i got it and the size and shape are all spot on but due to a mis communication the front and rear faces got mixed up so the pretty side is on the back, i'd planned to have it mirror polished anyway so it's worked out fine.

bora-24510001.jpg

tried to hold it in place and get some pics

bora-24510003.jpg

bora-24510004.jpg

then gave up and taped it

lol@tape. Looks cool mate

hardly progress, i still need a few parts before i can get cracking - my mate the polisher is on holiday so i'll have to wait for him to return before i can get the heat shield polished, that means i can't refit the engine until i have the shield back from the polishers

had a few other bits to sort tonight so set about sorting mounting points for the heat shield, i knocked up the first bracket from a spliced piece of 2" box section - cut, folded, welded and nuts welded on the back

bora-27510001.jpg

bora-27510002.jpg

once that was the right size and shape i gave it a squirt of gloss black and welded it onto the bulkhead in position

bora-27510003.jpg

i need to sort the top brackets now then wait for the polisher to come back off holiday

Should all come together nicely :D good job

This thread is awesome! I was gonna wait till winter to do the engine conversion in the mk3, but it might have to happen sooner now, I've been inspired :D for this i thank you and blame you for what is going to start as a little engine conversion and will no doubt end up in an epic refurb :)

bora-31510001.jpg

Lush wheels mate, love um.

Busy busy then!

Everything is loking very fresh indeed.

Superb work as usual . Been damn busy ripping some cars apart havnt you !

I tend to fill my time detailing cars and doing bodywork only really touch a spanner on my own .

Practical choice of wheels as we all know they will look good .

I wish i had a mate who could weld half as good as that . I struggle especialy on bodywork  Practice makes perfect tho :D

thanks Dale and Stealth - had to raise the obscene amount of cash for the wheels somehow....

hopefully my polisher is back from holiday soon so i can get my bits polished, once they're done i can get cracking and bolt the lump back in. :-D

got back from Spain at 4am this morning so best update and catch up on things.

got home this morning to find a couple of parcels waiting for me in the shed.....

bora-23610001.jpg

my wheels had arrived!

the rear

bora-23610002.jpg

9.5 with 225/40/18 - suprisingly little stretch

bora-23610003.jpg

front

bora-23610004.jpg

8.5j with 215/40/18 - again not a massive amount of stretch

bora-23610005.jpg

and the new (free) bolts with some fairly budget lockers

bora-23610006.jpg

so like a kid at chrismas i took a front and rear up to the car with a couple of bolts to trial fit - mainly to make sure the fronts clear the porscheys

bora-23610007.jpg

all is well on clearance side of things

bora-23610010.jpg

bora-23610013.jpg

bora-23610015.jpg

popped the rear on too

bora-23610016.jpg

and to my suprise i can still see the red of the 256mm calipers

bora-23610017.jpg

high roller - still on axle stands (all i need now is an engine [:DD] )

bora-23610018.jpg

got a few more goodies a day or two before i went away

clutch slave cylinder for the 6 speed

bora-23610020.jpg

clutch

bora-23610019.jpg

inlet gasket, exhaust gasket, washers / gasket for the turbo and new injector seats for the inlet mani when i get it back

bora-23610b.jpg
