need to know the best way to get the shape of the suspension turrets onto the wood so it will fit nice and snug

also how have you all secured it in? or have people just let them lay there

Measure it with cardboard or your existing carpet.

You can get away without bolting it down if it fits snug enough.

Are you building the floor for the boot or the back seats aswel?

I would bolt through the metal of the boot floor, and then make the gap air tight with silicon. Also try to bolt in to the seatbelt points.

I assumed thats what you meant, but i wasnt sure if you meant fill the whole gap under the floor with sealant Mad!!

You don't need to go drilling any holes in the floor to secure it.Just

use some wooden blocks but not MDF and silicone seal them to the

floor and then to hold the floor down,screw some wood screws in through

the floor into the wooden blocks underneath....

an yes its to cover the whole of the back, everything is fully stipped

Do it in 2 sections!

If it is the same as a 6n polo, then you will have a little ridge right below your boot door on the interior. What I did was lay down two long and thin-ish pieces of MDF right along from the ledge inside to the front of the back seat shape. Then attached them down by drilling into the rear ledge and into the metal abover the actual body, just into the area the rear seatbelts used to go in, and into the little ridges for the back seats to sit on.

Then laid my 2 separate sections down. The first one from the boot floor up to the ridge for the back seat, then from there to the front of the back seats.

Made it a lot easier.

the MK3 rear is pretty different to a mk4. as the turrets stick out pretty far. i was tempted to do it in 4 sections.

Cut the wood to size, and cover in one piece of carpet, it can then act as a hinge between the two parts. you can bolt it in to where the seat belts bolt into. As long as its a snuggish fit, it shouldnt flap around

Just carpet the turrets...it'll be a lot less hassle!

wont need to have a hinge tho as i am going to be putting a sub in my sparewheel well. so I'm going to need to sound proof the weel?

I wouldn't have thought so, but is the well deep enough? Or are you going to make a surround for it to sit up in? You'll have to gring the retaining bracket out too.

Do plenty of pics and keep us updated, i'm planning on this myself. you can make all the mistakes and i'll look like a go when i do it perfectly!

haha! I'm just gunna carpet the well so it doesnt sound to shit. was gunna rais it up about an inch from the rest of the floor. I've already started. couldnt wait haha. just gunna do it in 2 sections. the rear boot section tonight then the seat section 2moro when i get home.

yeah the well is deep enough its quite a shallow sub.

i have already done the rear/boot section. only took about 10-15mins with the interuption of the worlds nicest rado coming down my road and having a look.

i also have a little surprise for everyone when my sub goes in. its very different and not sure if anyones done it before either. the rest will be completed 2moro as I've got work tonight so it will have to wait.

also got plenty of photos :)

its just a vibe 1600w thing. brought it off a mate for 50 od quid with amp and leads. only got it because its simple and wont ruin my car :)

Only vibe? I practically have a full vibe system, awesome gear and the 'black' range looks so nice. Realy understated, none of this flashy blue crap covered in all sort of plastic crap!

I'm looking forward to it, as i'm about to embark upon re-doing my boot install. Got plenty of my own ideas, keeping them to myself til i'm done too!

right guys heres the update as promised!

so i pretty much started by doing the rear section (as H&S said) i just drew round the boot carpet and set on with the jig saw.

and the rear section just slots in. (figured it out after about 10 mins of fidiling :) )

the second section to cover the back seats was a bit of a pot luck game. as the front part of the suspension turrets and to catered for.

and finaly the 2 sections roughly put in place to give a guide to what it will look like when finished

i then had to make a frame for it all to sit on as 9mm play isnt going to hold a sub up, the material of choice was 45mmx50mm rough cut timber. and some 50mmx100mm (2"x4")

and just a check to see if the sub will fit (as i was being special and didnt check the gap in the frame lol)

alos had to cut the stud out of the well for the sub to fit in center

well thats it for now guys. should have it finished tommorow of friday afternoon latest
