right guys heres the update as promised!

so i pretty much started by doing the rear section (as H&S said) i just drew round the boot carpet and set on with the jig saw.

and the rear section just slots in. (figured it out after about 10 mins of fidiling :) )

the second section to cover the back seats was a bit of a pot luck game. as the front part of the suspension turrets and to catered for.

and finaly the 2 sections roughly put in place to give a guide to what it will look like when finished

i then had to make a frame for it all to sit on as 9mm play isnt going to hold a sub up, the material of choice was 45mmx50mm rough cut timber. and some 50mmx100mm (2"x4")

and just a check to see if the sub will fit (as i was being special and didnt check the gap in the frame lol)

alos had to cut the stud out of the well for the sub to fit in center

well thats it for now guys. should have it finished tommorow of friday afternoon latest

Looking good boss, how have you secured the batons to the floor?

I'm not. becuase i am screwing the sub through wood into the battons so the whole thing will keep self tight from sliding around. as it will be a snug fit around the turrets. spent about 20-30 mins trying to figure out how to secure it.

I'm just wondering if it might jump about a bit as you go over bumps. My sub and speaker pods have a habit of jumong around a bit

ahh well haha haven't throught of that..... at the front i was going to bolt the front of the batons to the 4/5 bolt locatins that at the very front of the back seat well. other then that I'm not entiraly sure tbh, will have to have a think about this

I wouldnt want to be drilling the shell either. you might get away with just doing the seat belt mounts really. You could put a long plate/washer along the baton for ~10inch to stop any flex around the joint, as you'll have the sub (with the weight) at the opposite end of the pivot-could create a large moment (turning force) if it decides to hop around. By using a long washer/brace between the bolt and baton, should help reduce any potential damage

Except now I've done mine, I didn't have to use the seat frame, even though it was a top notch idea matey. I'll have to show you some pics of how mine turned out.

do it. I've just mounted the sub and just about to cut the last hole on the top layer for it to sit on. still baffeled on the seat frame idea tbh

Just a thought, how are you going to seal the floor around the wheel well ? Obviously it has to be pretty air tight otherwise the subs gonna sound pants!

and fixing the battens to the floor is a must. a mastic tube of evostick & lotsssssss of it will make it solid, and i mean lots!

the car can be lifted by the battens, its that strong

built a box around the underneath of the sub and for pure ghetto-ness going to use some sealant! haha

and for securing it to the floor I'm still not sure about that.

would mastic really work that well? it holds itself in plave pretty good as it is as the floor is quite well balanced with the sub being one end of the floor and the amp/wires at other also made sure the floor is flat and resting on the front of the seat pan.

Old thread I know, but for anyone else doing this, I wouldn't go having the front to back wooden parts of the frame like that, if you get rear ended it's going straight through the back of your seat...

On another note I'm about to start doing this myself. Although i do not intent on having that wooden forklift truck shaped object aimed at my back!
