Mk2 Suspension... part 4

Featured Replies

Hi all...

It's 'back together' but there is something very wrong with it... Take a look. The cup is sitting proud of the inner arch bit, taking off the cup it's clear to see why. The rubber bit seems to have come up too far, why I don't know, I can only guess that it's the wrong part. Dumping it at the garage and will now get them to fix it, if it's the wrong part cheers GSF* (*although as I've had it apart for a while I should have asked them if it was the correct part before putting it back together... balls)

wtf?

why can nobody on here take a strut off, look at how it came off and put it back on the same way?

the amount of threads like this really takes the piss.

if you don't know what you're doing, pay the cash and give it to someone.

if you do screw it up, you're posting how retarded you are on a public forum.

hence my piss taking.

Everyone has to start somewhere mate, we cant all be a natural genious like you. The idea of a forum is to share information amongst like minded people. If you think people are retarded, i suggest you avoid these sorts of threads.

I'm not sure that is rong tbh. Mine was sitting a fair bit prouder than that! Have you done it up as tight as you can, the rubber may well compress further. Then again, it looks like its sitting on top of that nut. hmmm

prankstar, go drool elsewhere.

doesn't take a nuclear physicist to see that if you take something apart, you pay attention to how it went together, cheeky phone pic for future reference wouldn't kill anyone would it?

wtf are you talking about? As you can so clearly see me doing something wrong at least point it out before taking the piss, as far as I can see it's gone back the very same fucking way, just with a different part replacing a seperate, rubber, top & bottom housing of the bearing and the bearings themselves. The cone shape / \ is the same way as the previous, as is the flared bottom section. Actually, sod off from this post, I wish I was as great as you, no really I do. Getting things done right first time etc must be a great feeling and so on and so on... please, this is meant to be a place for helping people.

No need to be offensive. It wouldnt hurt, no. But if you forget to do it, it would be nice to think that people have a place to come for help, not just to be told how retarded they are.

Check the other topics on this, all of them, also look at the photo, no crappy phone shots, then read them again and tell me how it has gone back differently? Can you not just accept that the part GSF supplied is the wrong one?

I drove it a short distance, but I understand how it's all meant to work, it's just that the rubber is not holding the rest of the shaft off. The way in which it works was different to the one I took off, so run out of time now.

As for starting somewhere... apart from the troubles getting the nuts undone, this is the simplist assembly.

As i said, mine used to sit much higher, and made a knocking sound aroud corners, abit like a buggered CV joint, but that was fine

How did you sort yours?

yes i know everyone has to start somewhere but think what rich is getting at is that people dont check how they take things of especially if its the fist time doing it and also no checking if the part is the same as the 1 that came off. :-p

mine never made any noise.

sometimes weight on the wheels makes a difference, on a jack they sit flush.

off jack they pop up about 3-5mm. level tho, not at a angle.

We all make mistakes though, especially if your in a rush. Just being a little nicer and diplomatic about things doesnt help. I'm sympathetic to this thread though, cause i had most of the same problems! And i dont think i got them all sorted!

Yeh, mine are level. Bugger. Noise = bad i guess! I may need to have mine off again to have a look

So anybody want to point out what I've done wrong please?

am no taking sides or that but i just see rich's point tho, i dont want to upset anyone but at the end of the day it is common sense.

Fuck it, I didn't think it was all about finger pointing and taking the piss on here, clearly it is. There are some people that think I've put it back together incorrectly, and I'd like to to through that, but no. I still think that the part the GSF supplied that combined several individual items from the original make up is the incorrect part for my car.

Totally hijaked this thread, whoops
