Well id planned on doing a few things today. However this picture sums up last night pretty well...

350mb9v.jpg

Didnt feel too bad though this morning so cracked on with the headlamp plan.

No-one told me how rusted through the screws would be! Took quite a bit of WD40 and a lot of force with a chunkey screwdriver to stop them rounding.

And underneath i was met with this mess!

My bedroom then felt like a lamp company...

And i got to work sanding down and brush painting the panels with hammerite silver smooth. Perfect colour match as usual. Cleaned a lot of other bits around the engine bay too as i had good access with the lamps off.

Then i got the tinted units on (after a bit of hassle with one of the adjuster clips breaking and having to chop and change a few bits with some spare parts.)

After starting to clean the bay earlier and having got the headlamps on so easilly i decided to crack on with some other jobs...

After a few coats of VHT black...

Then a test fit of the eyebrow splitter. Looks 100x better in my opinion. Indicators still need a light coating of tint, but ill wait until after the headlamps have ben alignment and brightness tested.

I also blew a sidelight bulb so had to wander to Halfords and get some new ones...

nice straight front end, wish mine was like that.

looks good! i´d prefer the front without eyebrows.

Cheers guys!

Yeah still undecided about the eyebrows - going to be taking them on and off for a while i think.

Got the headlamps tested today, resined up a small crack in one of the carriers and gave the indicators a shot too...

Cheers, yeah I'm still deciding on running the eyebrow all the time or not...

Yeah well the block has done 170k. Low mileage head fitted a year ago, and i went round and cleaned the bay since then. Hard to keep clean but its quite enjoyable to do if the weathers decent :p Also helps spot any leaks etc if the bay is clean!

Thanks! Tea cosy? Meant to be a reservoir sock but its just a wristband off ebay :p Adds a small splash of colour to the engine bay aside the air filter and dizzy cap... :)

Cheers for the comments :)

Time for an update on here!

Just before UD i discovered my brakes were completely shot, so had my local garage fit brand new OEM discs, green stuff pads, reline the rear drums, new shoes and bleed the system. Stops brilliantly now.

On the front:

I also cleaned a few bits for UD, Brush painted the wheels with satin black hammerite - also covering the gay fake split bolts.

And also fitted an original 90s Kenwood sticker on the back window :)

Got me to UD and back fine, some of you will have seen it there I'm sure.

Got these rolling shots courtesy of charlys bf, which I've then edited.

And some of the shots from the polo3.co.uk stand at UD. Paint/bodywork looking very tatty in the direct sunlight!

Heres to a great night! Cheers guys and gals!

MOT due this month so passing that is top of the list.

Also got plenty of uni work to be doing, before leaving in a few months and looking for a job.

In the meantime some bodywork attention is on the list. And hopefully new wheels by the end of the year.

Time to update my CP thread i think!

Since the last time i was on here, I've fitted a genuine original snap off steering wheel boss kit (which is one of my fav mods i must say), smoothed the carbon fibre mirror base, tuned the engine a bit and with a service got it running nicely again after a bit of neglect. I then started attacking a few rust spots and got a bit carried away, and started working on the dented rusty drivers wing. Which is currently sat in satin black but is all smooth and looking brand new again, ready for a respray in diamond silver.

Then i started refurbing the wheels, had some silver left over so sprayed up my old pressed numberplates (long since replaced with legal halfords ones) for show use.

Lookin much better now imo.

Let me know what you think.
