be more aware of your surroundings when driving...always keep my eyes out for the police on the road and off the road lol

i was driving home one night, the limit on the road is 30, i was doing closer too 50 and the police car was just sat at a junction, i went past them, caught a glimpse of them and manged to hit the brakes....ooops lol they followed me home, pulled up next to me and told me i was going too fast, they could accept me doing 30 - 40 but not closer too 50 lol.

surely thats a bit of bad advice, telling me i can do between 30/40 on a 30 road lol :-D

I got an SP30 for doing 45 in a 30...there was not a cat in hells chance i was doing 45...thought about taking it further, asking for calibration certs etc...but its just more hassle.

dont know if this has already been said as i aint got time to read all the replies. But you could ask for the picture and then when they send it to you, generally the driver cant be identified so you can turn around and say at that point in time its unclear whos driving as you leant it to a mate, or if you have the a named driver on you policy you can say it could possibly be them who was driving and not you. At this point they will generally drop the points and you just pay the fine as they cant determine who was driving the vehicle and they cant punish someone for something that cant be proven so they just request the fine. I know this works as i have done it afew times and my father has, as we both drive each others cars and at the time the car was caught speeding we couldnt determine who was driving by the photographs that were taken.

just outta interest dude, how much did you are insurance go up by with 3 points on the valver? i think i may have been done the other day by a cop hiding down some little side road with a gun, just gotta play the 14day waiting game now i guess. was wondering though, with a radar gun, can they be sitting in their car and use it or do they have to be outside the car holding it? possibly a dumb question

Nah, can be in the car. Though your less likely to be caught this way, since it relies on the cop thinking that you are going faster than the limit, and then preping the gun etc. So unlss its really obvious, your unlikely to get done. Was it head on/from behind? I'm not sure the guns work from a perpindicular angle

well it was a 50 n i think by the time i went past him i was doing around 60, i couldnt see the fu*ker as he was hiding down a side road, so if he did clock me it would have been from a perpendicular angle. i mean yeah fair play, my fault n all but its still shit, it wasnt like i was proper gunning it - i was just enjoying driving on a big open road with the windows down n nice weather, but some how i dont think that would hold up as a good enough defense haha.

If you say a mate was driving they will check to see if they are insured on the car.

Also if you fail to say who was driving the car at the time then the owner can get done for that.

i dont think i mentioned at the start of this topic but it was a hand held one lol. got 2 error messages before getting me the 3rd time. sneaky pigs, literally hiding behind a pelican crossing thing, i dont even get a picture as a souvenir!

well now there is a thing set up by the dvla where you pay £25 or £35 and they investigate the road leading up to the camera and if there is a sign that is bent or unreadable or the lines on the road wernet ther or any other little insecurity they will remover the points from your license

if that's true (which i doubt it is but it would be nice if it was) i can see a lot of road signs getting vandalized in the future

its true it was advertised in a magazine it had the official DVLA stamp and everything on it i aint been at work for 2 weeks but if the magazine is still there ill put a pic of it up for you all to see i rang the number and they told me about it but i aint payin cause my points come off with in this month anyway lol

i know the obvious answer would be not to speed but we all do even if we dont realise it.

is there any way if someone was given 3 points and £60 fine to dodge the points? an old friend said about a rumour that if u send a cheque away for £61 instead of sixty and then they give u a cheque of £1 back and u dont cash it, app it voids the points?? we where in a bar at this stage so the alcohol cuda been talking? but has anyone heard of this being done in NI or mainland UK??

So many urban myths when it comes to speeding fines...there is no way to accept the fine but not the points. A court could offer you a speed awareness course but's that's possibly the only way and they won't always do it.

Hiring Nick Freeman will cost you the best part of £10k, and he often loses in court (though you don't hear about those of course!)

Also beware of internet advice regarding avoiding paying fines. Most of them rely on an old loophole where when the court ask you to identify the driver, you just say you don't know or don't sign the form and hope they discontinue the case but this loophole no longer exists.

In law the registered keeper has to exercise "reasonable diligence" to identify the driver, so in other words you can't just shrug and say "I dunno" when they ask you to identify the driver from a photo etc. If you're the registered keeper and say you don't know who was driving you car, you could technically avoid points BUT you commit another offence instead by failing to ID the driver and will land in even more poo with the court, especially if they think you're lying.
