there is a large grommet behind the header tank it is very stiff but you can push a wire coathanger through that with your power wire taped to if and sprayed with some form of lubricant it can then be pulled through into the car it comes out just to the left of the centre of the dash behind the carpet

Had the same problem with my GTi. Took me about 2 hours in the end to get aa 4 gauge power wire through this dam tight hole. I ended up cutting the hole slightly bigger but not enough that water and engine heat can come through.

How you getting the wire from the front of the car to the back ? You taking out the seats and doing it under the carpet?

Best to run it behind the plastic flap that runs along the side just under the door seals. Then through the gap in the rear door card ( if it's a 3 door ) then into the boot.
