Ring around and find out, thats the most accurate way.

So you got pissed up and fell asleep in your car? Were the keys in the ignition or in your pocket?

You're best off shopping around as some companies specialise in insuring convicted drivers.

20 months for being pissed and asleep, you sure you weren't driving . . . . . .

how did you get banned for sleeping in your car when pissed?? surely its better than driving lol where were you ? / where were the keys as asked?

i think your quote on compare.com isnt accurate, my cousins insurance went up astronomically after his 2 year ban for drink driving

People have been done for it when opening the car to get something whilst pissed, the 5o wont take chances.

Its the charge of being 'in the control of' a vehicle, not driving it,that gets you wrapped.

You cant even work on your car when its parked on a private driveway,if you're drunk or banned - unless you surround the car with a piece of string to isolate it from 'inviting public access'.

So you cant even wash your car on your driveway after three Stellas. This is true.

It gets better; If you're at a petrol station, you cannot be left in the car at all with the keys if you're drunk or banned - even if you're the passenger and the owner is in the shop paying for the fuel,if you're in the car with the keys you'll get banned.

Same with a ban - if you're a banned driver, you cant be left alone with the keys and car - even if you're a passenger sitting in the back and the driver has left the keys in the ignition.

The fact that this can lead to prison shows just how messed up our laws are.

There is considerably more focus on criminalising the motorist than against sexual offenses in the UK.

thats just wrong, some good knowlege there.

I think you'd have to get a seriously arsey and bored copper to arrest you if your washing your car and having some cans. Are you certain those rules aren't a bit sugar coated for the sake of story telling cause they seem kind of ridiculous.

Its factual. How anal a copper would have to be to enforce them is a matter of opinion, but it is true.

I actually believe the same is of non-licence holders, but didn't get that cleared up at the time that i got the information (from people who were qualified to teach road laws) - so your kids would be included. Of course you cant be expected to take a car load of passengers to the cashpoint with you,but if you dont leave the keys in the car then its perfectly legal for them to wait in the car.

But yeah,if a passenger is drunk or banned, they can get arrested if you leave both them and your keys in your car. For any reason, and any amount of time.

so when i go and wash my car in a few minutes il take the steering wheel off cuz my area is full of community police lookin about for weed smokers , I'm not gona b drinking but I'm still banned for 4 months

think i remember your posts when this happened- its bad crack, but glad your just about back on the road. hope doesnt cost you too much.

stupid rule but yuou can see why they enforce it...

my mate got banned for having one pint, only got pulled because he forgot to put his lights on as he exited the carpark

^^^ i thought you could drive after 1 point??

some of those rules are crazy...am not banned but have driven with my banned cousin in the car before and left him in there and so has his other half...mental to think we could have been done by the police for leaving him in the car with the keys and also when hes cleaned the cars lol

love the british law system :-D

one pint on an empty stomach is more than enough. i think i pint (depending what your drinking) could be up to 2.5 units (correct me if needed) and you can only have a single unit.

Simple rule- if you are driving dont drink at all.

Back on topic, it is a stupid rule and take a copper being a bit of plonker to do it. no suprise there then

police round my area breathalize people in the morning in case they've been out the night before. not sure if they do this anywhere else?

a guy i know drove to the pub, got pissed, walked home and left his car there. he picked his car up the next morning and the pigs stopped him and breathalized him and he was over the limit, therefore banned

how is that fair for doing the right thing?

He still drove while intoxicated.... so he didnt do the right thing?

People often think sleeping gets alcohol out of your blood system???

I've been breathalised twice after having 1 pint of stella, both times 20 mins after and blown an 8 both times

depends on how your body handles booze i guess. i never drive after more than 1 but i can see advantages in the dont drive at all if youre drinking rule

although then again you are still at risk if youre half cut in the morning which is another factor to consider aswell

naa just builds up the stonking headache and taste of kebab on your burps

I was once in the pub and a family friend's daughter was at our table, it was her birthday and she was absolutely plastered. She was blabbing about how she was going to drive home, and actually showing off about how she was going to drive drunk. I told her she was massively selfish and an idiot, and that I wasn't willing to stand by and let her put herself and others in danger, so I offered to buy her a £20 taxi back home. my friend who has known her all his life said she could stay in the spare room at his house, but she refused both of these offers and just said 'why don't you just phone the police then' sarcastically, and started going on about how her family have always driven home drunk and never crashed.

To ensure that she had no choice but to take our money and take a taxi home, I took out my mobile and told her I was going to phone the non-emergency police line; she agreed and whilst I was on the phone to the police, she gave me her registration number, what car she drove, exactly where it was parked, and what time she would be leaving.

I didn't phone the police to get her in trouble, I phoned them with her permission to ensure that she could not get in her car and drive home plastered. We gave her £20 for a taxi ride home, and left to find some more pleasant company.

Found out in the morning that she had been arrested by the police driving out of the car park over 5 times over the legal limit. She was banned from driving for two years. On top of that, her whole family were emigrating to australia later that year, but her visa was revoked due to the criminal record. I expected a shit storm of hate from all that side of our family friends, but instead the girls mother came round and thanked us for trying to help her daughter, and said that they had in the past had to steal her keys and block her car in to stop her driving out of the house drunk. Apparently now she's living in london and is living a life of pills and needles.

Point being: It's really, really not worth drinking and driving.

You can have more then 1 unit mate, most people can have 2 pints of larger and still be under the limit.

Unit wise, men can have 4. A can of Carling is 1.8 so you can have 2 but a can of Strongbow is 2.2 so technically you cant finish the second one and drive - But people will take the piss out of you if you leave drink :badgrin:

If your in the drivers seat, your considered to be in control of the car. Regardless of where the keys are etc. I didnt know this til recently, and i always used to sleep in my car after a few :?

Silly, but like you say, they dont wanna take any chances

Wrong, you'r actually alowed 4 units before you can drive, which is 2 pints of ~4% lager. However, its measured by blood alcohol volume 80mg alcohol in 100ml of blood.

But as you say, its safer not to drink at all

Theres many a horror story. I had a friend who had a skinful in town, and then got a taxi home to a village. Which is the sensible thing to do. Unexplicably though he decided to get into his car when he got home, and ended up putting it into a tree, writing the car off, and sadly himself too.

Alcohol is the most destructive drug of all, and stupidly the least regulated. If dop was legal you wouldnt have these problems, everyone would be tucked up in bed by 9 surrounded by biscuits
