Declaring mods on insurance

Featured Replies

How many of you actually declare mods such as coilovers? I'm insured 3rd party fire and theft...so what would happen if someone was to hit me or steal it? I'm guessing my insurance wouldnt pay out and id lose the value of my car and insurance for that year.

My insurance would be sky high as it would be my second year of driving...

well u'll be driving around with invalid insurance so what is the point in having any insurance lol :p

insurers ask if there are any mods to the car your insuring, I'm sure the insurers have a right to come and inspect a car at anytime they like ,(dnt hold me to that tho)

cant afford to pay the extra to cover the mods on the insurance dont buy em and be safe and sure you are insured !

Also if you get stopped by the police and they check you'll be right royally taken from behind as in affect you're driving with no insurance.. which will probably cost u your licence as you're within the 2 year period!

Besides if you hit someone they wont get a penny from you so sort it out you tool!

Not just that, if you say a council sign post and a fence you will have to pay out for that as well. In the event of you having to claim insurance companies will try anything to get out of paying, why give them a reason to? You have to pay insurance anyway, even if it costs you £100 more to declare its still worth it.

Think about how pissed off you'd be if osmeone with no insurance crashed into and wrote off you car.

how many threads does this topic need.. Just do it or take a risk and dont

There are various points that are severely incorrect here. I'm not backing the idea behind not declaring mods, however:

Firstly, as far as I'm aware the insurance DOES pay out to the other party, this would be severely unfair to the other party if they did not, however, it does get marked down on your license as an offence, you will not be payed out for your car, will have to pay towards damages to various things (which I'm not too sure of) and you will definitely struggle to obtain insurance again.

Secondly, the "if you get stopped by the police". It is NOT the police you should worry about as they will almost NEVER check your insurance details in that much detail as it requires a provider to be issued and they have to fill out endless forms and ring your insurance company to get the information. Can take a while, hence most won't bother.

hey guy I've insured my polo as standard an the stuff that they dont know about r lowering kit exhaust alloys an i pay £2000 for my insurance as a standard car they said they wont insure me even with alloys on an what u expect me to do tell them i have all those mods on lmao hahah

just hope u dont have a accident or kill someone then

no insurance !

if the car is stolen then they aint going to know if youve had mods on it. If in the even you have an accident and the other person claims however you do not, then they wont bother checking your car. And finally if you do have an accident and you do claim then if the insurance deems the mods made to have contributed to or increased the chances of you having the accident then they will refuse to pay out for yourself but will pay out for the third party.

I'm going to declare mine next time i always worry bout not being insured.. so when I've bought some new wheels and fitted new alarm n leathers I'm going to declare everything

probs be not much more

I would of expected

a) find an insurance company that will (they're will be some offering 2k to insure you with mods I would think)

b) Wait till you can find someone to insure you.

Driving without valid insurance is NOT cool! And infact boosts all the people that do pay proper insurance's premium up.. so fuck you all :x

why would they, youve voided your contract with them by lying, they dont have to pay out shit

So many 'if's' so many 'maybe's'. So many completely stupid posts. Been watching this thread yesterday but had to post now.

This winds me up so much cos one day i might be the poor person one of you knob jockeys drives into.

Errrr No.

You sir are a complete and utter idiot. I have never met you, and dont know you, but i can be sure of this simply from your post above.

If you beleive your ok with that... you are crazy.

Think about it. How much of a ball ache is it getting a pay out from your insurance in perfect circumstances?

So how far do you think a company would go to get out of paying 3, 4, 5 thousand pounds?

If you are caught you will be prosecuted for driving without insurance.

If you hit someone and get found out, insurance WILL NOT pay out for the third party- why would they? They have no liability what so ever. DubDanny- 'as far as you are aware' explain that. What are you aware of? do you work for an insurance company? what makes you an expert? cos if i am gonna take your advice and not declare i need a bit more than 'as far as i am aware'. Saying it would be 'unfair' isnt enough of a reason to expect the insurance company to pay out.

why would they, youve voided your contract with them by lying, they dont have to pay out shit

I have no idea why, but i have been told by a very kind lady at Direct Line that that is the case, and not just with them but with all insurers.

sorry just noticed a problem with the last part of my previous post, i meant if the insurance company deems the mods applied to have not contributed to or increased the chances of the accident then they will pay out for the third party but not for the policy holder.

was in a crash with my friend in his escort that was down as a 1.4 but had a 1.8 16v engine fully chaved up and that. he decided to plough into 4 cars at a set of traffic lights and police were called copper took him off to the meat wagon they came in asked if the mods were insured he was honest and said no copper even let him drive it home even tho it was in no state to be driven. thats northamptonshire police for you. you can be lucky or you cant depends on the coppeer

Looks like spiders got us a couple of flies......

What did you and your mate have to do before he would let you go?

Technically if your car gets nicked or run into it dosent matter, because if it gets nicked how can they look at it? unless it gets recovered. And if someoen runs into you you are claiming off their insurance.

Biggest worry is being caught out by the police, Coilovers arent so bad though as long as your not too low because you cant see em. Spray em satin black.

IF you don't declare mods, you don't have insurance.

Simple as that, there shouldn't even be an argument regarding the technicalities.

Brentacre FTW! So there's no fucking excuse!

Stop being a bunch a fuckwits and putting us honest decent peoples premiums up, END OF!

Good point, Brentacre don't charge any extra when you mod your car. Just ring them up, tell them what you've done and they change it on there system.

With them you have to be 19 with at least One yncb to take out a modified policy though.

Well wait till you're 19 with at least 1 years ncb before modding your car! Still no fucking excuse! Pisses me right off. especially when you get little twats with little or no driving experience bragging about their un-declared mods

i am insured with mods declared, i was just pointing out that you have to be a certain age jeeeeeeeeeeeez
