i think its anything after 6mm and you need longer bolts tbh, and think you should have 6 full turns on the bolt

Use your noggin. Ring up a local alloy wheel place and say you want to know what sized bolts you would need for a 'insert year here' Polo.

my borbets would have needed longer bolts even with 5mm spacers when i tried to put them on, but on my mattig steels, with 10mm spacers i dont need them because the faces are much thinner...

Ah right - I can get them on with 10mm spacing.

But the garage near me deam it as dangerous.

I counted eight threads,and wouldn't use less.

I've heard Mercedes are the way forward for longer bolts,but have no experience of it.
