Dump valves decrease the performance of all cars, and are fitted to offer protection for the turbo, but a diesel will not surge when the throttle is shut, so you are decreasing the performance for no gain??? I dont get it. And how would it work as there is no vacuum?

So I'm assuming you can turbo these on the standard compression ratio? and fit a pump off the turbo golf engine for the correct fuelling?

dump valve will be used as i want one for a giggle......i'm not sure why you think they decrease performance??? There is vacuum, from the vacuum pump, the kit comes with a little box of electronic valves that supply vacuum from the vacuum pump to the dump valve when it senses a rapid drop in boost pressure

yep, standard compression.......no golf fuel pump as these rotate the wrong way compared to the polo pump

Dump valves vent excess boost when you let off/change gear etc. So your turbo has to spool up again, its only a momentary delay in performance but a delay all the same. Also it puts a little less strain on your clutch and drivetrain as there is no boost when you let the clutch back up, I suppose you could argue that the surge stalls the turbo but not noticably. I chose not to fit a DV to my car, it surges badly between gears but its not bad enough to shorten the life of the turbo too much, dump valves get up my nose with their regular noise. I suppose it wont be too bad on a diesel.

There must be a pump you can fit off a turbo diesel? Its pretty dangerous shoving loads more air in and no extra fuel. I suppose you can just wind the max fuel screw up to the top and suffer the smog when you are off boost. It must work as it seems other people have done it before.

It would be good if you could fit a proper pump though, one of the Bosch VE pumps must be compatable.

A reg Formel E should be a 1093cc. Has it still got got SSA?

YETI: SSA??? if you are refering to the boot sticker then yes, it is still there....it is a hb engine, the paint code is LA4V which is called brombeer!?!?....The interior is grey seats with a black dash and black door cards...

TOMMO: compressor surge= bad, a dump valve prevents compressor surge= good......we'll have to agree to disagree lol

The polo fuel pump is a bosch VE pump, i have retro fitted a LDA allowing boost enrichment....all VE pumps are capable of this

Nice sounding project you have there! :)

Also SSA is a switch on the right of the dash, below the headlight switch. When turned on it will cut the engine when idle for around 2 seconds (like when stopped in traffic). then when a gear is selected it re-starts the engine.

Nice to see another Formel E

an ex girlfriends sisters mk2 had that, i didn't look to be honest.......and bmw are ranting and raving about their new 'automatic stop/start' system lol

Compressor surge is bad, but your diesel wont surge as there is no butterfly valve in the intake, so no need to worry.

The LDA boost enrichment is sweet. Should be awesome, super tunable as well. It seems like pretty much every DI engine has those VE pumps, we even use them at work!

yeah, i realise that really it will not much in terms of turbo life etc but at 2bar+ it will sound quite amuzing

got the old girl running tonight........the points were knackered (were stuck together!) due to a tired condensor, so i replaced the points, condensor and coil....she fired up but ran lumpy as....a fettle here and there and see runs sweet now

I am finding the ecometer quite amuzing lol

I want an ecometer lol.

Interesting project. I like the colour, you need a matching tartan granny blanket for the rear parcel shelf, I just got one for that sleeper look.

This appeared on a thread about a year back, Diesel G40?

that G40 charged diesel has no fuel enrichment capabilities for boost conditions so fairly pointless really.......

get a straight through exhaust on there td's sound the tits with no silencers, plus its good for keeping down the EGT's, i've never bothered about them myself but they yanks seem to constantly bang on about them when tuning a diesel.

where did you get your blower from mate? need a new one for mine, i can hear the blades hitting the casing most times it boosts up

off a light fingered friend of mine

can your light fingered friend get more?

no mate, he no longer works at the same place!

upgraded from 4" wide steels to 5 1/2" wide alloys.......the 145/80R13's had to be strecthed to fit....upside is less sidewall deflection meaning better handling (i kid you not) but retaining the same'ish rolling diameter.

I have just ordered an -80mm suspension kit from germany (doubt it'll be -80mm, never are) and i am toying with removing the front bumper all together (weigh a fair bit and in my opinion it transforms the look of the car.

I do have some pics of the new rimz init but can't find my bloody data lead lol
