Looking for some guidence,

I've been given to information and guidences already

The first being

To remove my 6x9's and upgrade my front speakers, that sit in the dash,

and the Second

Upgrade my 6x9's, leave my front speakers alone, and then get some comps, that will be put into speaker pods, which can be made??

I'm not sure on what to do now, as i dont want to spend loads, i have the Amp, Sub on its way but not the best 6x9's and front speakers :S

And if i was getting new comps for teh doros i dont know what id get

My budget for the ICE is a £100 so far I've spent £35 on Amp, and £25 on the sub leaving £60 to play with :)

I'm no ice expert but 6x9s arent the best speakers in the world just most common.

Just a good high output headunit with good components in it, some uprated front and rear standard /aftermarket speekers and a set of tweeters each and a optional sub if you are into that should have it sounding pretty good.

Yeah I'm thinking of going for some Comps too, get some speaker pods made up and mount he tweaters there also,

I've already got the Amp installed altough it does need the wiring finished, but I'm going to ort the ICE out first so just looking for advice,

Anyone got any pictures of homemade speaker pods for MK3 Polos ?

Here's my attempt, not the best sound in the world but far better and louder than the dash mounted 4" ones i had.

as you can see theres a big gap where the pocket is, i got to sort that out.

I've got problems wiring the amp in at the moment,

I've got a JVC KD-G612, with a JBL GTO 4 Channel Amp and Kicker sub,

I've got my earth wire laid down, my power ready to be hooked to the battery, the RCA for the amp, and awaiting the RCA for the sub,

And my remote cable is laid but not plugged into the H/U simply because i dont know what wire it is, ITS DEFINATELY not the blue wire. Thats the Antenna Power wire,

I can list the wires I've got for the Main ISO plug

Blue - Antenna Power

Two yellows - Dont know

Red - Dont know,

Orange - Dont know

There the ones coming from the H/U to the ISO

But on the other side of the ISO plug, where the Actual Loom for the car is there are two more wires which arnt then connected to anything the other side :/

Blue/silver - Dont know (doesnt have a symbol)

Blue/White - Dont know (doesnt have a symbol)

Plus the others

But shouldnt my amp power up with the Remote not connected as it doesnt :/ or at least there are no lights,

I'm just confused by it all and need some help

I'm sure its normaly the blue and white wire, if not just wire it up to a switch and just turn it on and off that way

And no the amp wont power up without the remote wire as the remote wire turns the amp on when the head unit turns on otherwise it would just drain your battery if its constantly on, hope thats some help mate

I thought the blue antenna power wire was what told the amp to turn on? That's what I've always plugged mine into anyway...

Some new amps have an on/off switch powered by the RCA cables, are you sure yours doesn't do this? Also find a good earth, or the amp might not turn on at all!

Ok, I've got someone coming to check it out for me tomorrow, and yeah I've earthed it to the boot, the panel just abow where the bolts are to remove therear bumper, is that not the best place ?

I'm not sure where you mean but mine is earthed on where the seatbelt mechanism thing bolts, think its just a 10mm nut, always worked fine there for me

Will give it ago then, take it you sanded it to bare metal etc etc

the aerial wire (blue one) is fine for using as a remote wire, after-market head-units often have a blue wire, and a blue white wire, so you have one for the aerial and one for wiring an amp in. As for the best place to earth the amp, it is without a doubt one of the seatbelt mounting points, like someone already suggested.

as you are on a tight budget, i would scrap the idea of running 6x9s or even components for the time being, stick the 6x9s on ebay and get some cash back for them. then upgrade your dash speakers. (you dont need huge speakers if you are running a sub anyway)

then what you want to do is bridge 2 channels on the amp to run the sub and use the 2 remaining channels to run the speakers in the dash.

make sure you have the high pass filter set for the dash speakers (set it so they dont recieve anything lower than 12 hz, this will stop bass going to them, therefore reduce the chance of them distorting and as an added bonus will allow them to output a bit more volume) It will also mean you have no speakers connected to the head-unit, so if its a high spec unit you can turn off the on-board amp in the settings (not all head-units have this function though)

use the sub to fill in all the lower end sound that will be missing.

This will give you the basis of a good starter setup that you can build on. The next step would be to ditch the dash mount speakers in favour of some door mounted components, witrh dash mounted tweaters, but to be honest I dont think its worth the hassle (i have one polo running running upgraded dash speakers and 2 12" subs and the other running door mounted components and a ported 10" sub and to be honest there is little to choose between them)

unless you've got a power antenna it shouldnt matter use the blue one as it only sends signal when the HU is on
