hi as far as i know this can be done, seen it before. 1.0L gearbox in 1.4 16v polo. this should make it faster in acceleration right, but top end speed will be lower? how much faster acceleration will it be, and is this an easy job, or do a lot of other things need to be changed....

Should bolt straight in. If it's a CWX box, then it has the same ratios as the 1.0 DCD, but a taller diff. You'll lose around 10mph at the top end. If you use the 1.0 DKG, then you only lose 6mph. The revs drop between gears is the same.

As long as it's out of a 6n,it'll bolt straight in. Straight swap.

Should be just as strong/reliable - in fact,a used 1.0 unit is likely to be in pretty good condition as long as it hasn't got any leaks.

Make sure you get the clutch done,as you have to remove the gearbox to fit the clutch,so you may as well for the money. And on that note,it should cost not a penny more than a clutch change to swap the gearboxes too,for that reason,if you're supplying the 1.0 box - it doesn't take much labour to take one 30kg unit out the boot and put another in..
