Interesting find today....

Featured Replies

Seeing as it was a really nice day i phoned my mate this morning to see if they fancied

a wee summer time blast around the hills up at Aberfoyle, over the Dukes Pass http://www.incallander.co.uk/drive1.htm

and onto Callander before heading to Stirling and back home to Cumbernauld. So we headed

away at 10 this morning and got to Aberfoyle and stopped for some ice cream. The only

place we could find to get parked was at the back of a Hotel and that's where we found this....

1991 Mk2 Golf GTi 8v,5 door,big bumpers 120k,no Tax,4 months mot.

DSCF1519.jpg

It has a for sale sign in the window as you can see but the car has been sitting there for

so long you can barely see the writing. So we had a wee nosey around it and a bloke appeared

and asked us if we were interested in the car,i said "yes" and he handed me the keys! Turns

out it's his father-in-laws car,it's been parked there for 7 months,he works in the hotel and

comes out every week and moves it around the car park to stop it from ceasing up.He did

tell us that the battery had went flat 2 weeks ago and he hadn't moved it since.I asked him

if he had any idea of a price and he said that his father-in-law wasn't after much...maybe a

couple of hundred. So i phoned him and got some more details and a price...£300 if it take

it without a battery or £375 with one.So we're heading up tomorrow night to have a proper

look at it.I only took one picture and dropped my camera and i think it's dead now... :-(

I know it's a 5 door but at that price...it'd be silly not to buy it!

Your thoughts please....

always liked the mk2 gti, so if i was u i would be round like a shot, and 5 doors look cool

When you said he handed you the keys, I thought he had given it to you!

ahah same here. looks nice though, good polish in order though ay 8-)

Wow wish I could find gems like that Scott.

My one cost double that and its not very healthy :(

Bargain though if you buy it!

5 doors look ghey, but at the price you can hardly complain!

Looks like a potential bargain, one of the later Digifant ones I believe. Body looks good at a glance.

Did you see this thread of the one I've picked up for £50...?

http://www.clubpolo.co.uk/forum/index.php?...=150739&hl=

with big bumpers and thin side trim it'll definately be later spec digifant.

bought my old 3door 8v for 350 with 4 months T+T, ran it for a month then sold it on for the same price

me and a mate got offered an 8v 3 door (i think it was any way), still has the bbs's on it, he only wants scrap value for it. we're gonna go and have a look at it once we have a couple of cars out the way and probably break it

Would be worth it even if just to break, so i say go for it 8-)

Does look too good to break though, and theres nothing wrong with 5 door, you dont see them when youre nailing it round some twisties

Be a shame to break it i reckon.

Nout wrong with 5doors. they pimp harder tbf

Either way, id go for it at that price. I picked my polo up for that.

That looks very original,a sensible lowering kit and polish up is all it seems to need on top of a good service.

Id buy it myself just to tidy it up and sell it to a good home.

K-jets may be more desirable, but such original examples are rare.

i found digifants are more desireable because 99% of people want big bumpers etc

Someone is always going to want a MK2 Golf no matter what state its in. Someone might wanna break it for spares, someone might want it for an engine, someone might want it as a project or something to run around in. Its one of those cars thats quite a safe buy really.

Cheers for all the replies folks....

I've just got back from checking the car out properly and there are a few

minor things wrong with it but none are serious. The back doors, both of them

won't open from the outside, the headlining is missing from the back of the

car,the drivers seat has a massive hole at the bolster and the rear calipers

have ceased on...the fronts seemed to be okay.Body wise i can't fault it apart

from the paint fading but it's an old red car and that's what they do best

All the trim is in place and the sunroof works too.One of the BBS RA's has had

a serious kerbing at some point but the tyres are all look in good condition.

All the floors are dry and i couldn't see any problems underneath or around the

inner and outer arches and it's had a new exhaust on it at some point. The filler

cap/neck is solid too with no signs of rust anywhere. The MFA is in full working

order which is a real bonus and i found a receipt in the glove box dated 1/5/08

from a garage in Stirling for 4 KYB springs and 4 shockers. It started first time

when i hooked up the jumpers and once the choke cut out,it ticked over beautifully...

I took a few more pictures of the car and it's small faults...

Missing headlining...

I spoke to the guys son-in-law and he said that the bloke needs rid of it and that

the last couple of people who looked at it never made any offers and said to offer

him £200...he recons that i'll get it for that!

you simply have to get it for £200!!!

Your a Scot FFS, you could have low balled him a bit more than that!

:lol::lol::lol:

Fucking right get him to pay for you to take it away

I would say with a bit of TLC and the fact that 120k is not too bad mileage this will look well tidy and make good money.

A five door 8v is going to be a very practical car to someone, I thought they didn't look right until I saw this one...

Get it bought 8-) or atleast post the address so someone else can go get it

Don't wory mate...i'm having it!

I've to phone the guy today,he was on night shift last night...

Phoned the guy today and offered him £200...but there was no way he

was for parting with it at that price. So after a bit of banter he got his £300

for the car and he's throwing in a load of spares he got from the previous

owner including a full set of Hella smoked lights for it,which he was going

to sell on E-bay....

I spoke to Ross,13kpologt and he's going to use his car trailer to get

it back to Cumbernauld for me....Cheers big guy, thats one i owe you!

It's been a long while since i've owned a Golf GTi....happy days!

Nice one Scott, I'll be round at Ross's at the weekend, you going to take it over let us have a look see?
