Someone tells me that Vw do a 12 year rust warranty, so if it becomes rusty before the 12 year period it can be repaired by them. Is this free?

Mines a P reg 6n and not sure if its within the time limited...what would need to be done if it was still within the 12 years?

sounds interersting, mines only 11 years old and has a few bit of rust tht need repairing.

that's gotta be bullshit, they would have to be crazy to offer that kind of deal while producing shit like the 6N

I'm sure Mercedes do a lifetime warrenty for rusty panels on their cars, catch is you have to have owned the vehicle from new to get reapairs for free.

If VAG use this rust warrenty, then i guess you would have had to have owned the car from new as well.

According to the brochures, 6N's came with only a six year body protection warranty.

6N2's, on the other hand, do have a twelve year body protection warranty.

guess they felt more confident after galvanising the 6n2s

Audis have been twelve since the 80s,and it took the galvanised 6n2 for the Polo to catch up.

Even then,its perforation,not some surface eyesore - and even for that,you're looking at full VW service history because they inspect the shells during servicing.

No third party crash damage either - genuine honoured repairs only.

It is true about the 12years warranty on the later vag cars. a mate had his y reg s3 roof redone under warranty, but it needs to have full service history and not been previously repaired before, (by a non approved bodyshop).

They use a paint depth checker as factory paint thickness is thin and no repairer can do painting to the thre same thickness as the factory.

You also dont have to be the original owner to get the work carried out.

Gave my local VW hotspot a ring yesterday to enquire about this. There is a 12 year "anti-corrosion perforation" warranty on Audi's and VW's. The polo 6n did in fact receive the 12 year warranty as the whole body of the car was in fact galvanised, in 2 separate ways. Can't remember the ways off hand but 2 different methods were applied to the outer shell and the inner shell.

VW require you to bring your car into the warranty specialist who will take a gander at your car. Any modifications that could have led to the problem such as lowering for example which could affect a common problem which is the plug in the wheel well, would be disregarded and you would not be entitled to your repair.

Another condition is that the car has to have a full dealership service history.

To be fair it is handy if you own a standard car which has had full service and are unfortunate enough to have rust perforation problems.

It also does apply to surface rust which can be picked up by a camera. As if it can be picked up by a camera, it could therefore lead to corrosion/perforation.

As aforementioned about Mercedes' lifetime warranty. This is not true. It is however, 30 years in Germany and the UK, but only 5 years in the USA due to how they use salt largely to melt ice down which can affect the cars a shed load worse as you can imagine.

Oops, my bad, Didn't check the dates. It was the 6n2 which was the first fully galvanised one as opposed to the 6n =[
