Which tyres for 14 x 8 wheels

Featured Replies

Hi people, what tyre size would you recommend for 14 x 8?

I was thinking 195 40 14 continentals, as shown in the pic below, but are there better options?

The following pic is 195 40 14 conti's, but I want to be able to go ALOT lower

Hope PoloPaul doesn't mind me using his pic!

195/40/14 cost more though, i got the 45's and think they're good, could always go 195/40 or 45/14 on the front and 185/50/14 on the rear for that extra clearance. What are the offsets of your wheels?

Why go lower? That 6n2 sits perfectly plus if you go lower than that it would be undrivable.

I say go with the tyre you have suggested which will be stretched but wontlook ridiculous and that ride height so your car doesnt look broken and you wil have the stance nailed.

I'm a firm believer in there is a thing as TOO low!

I just think that the car pictured sits far too high, and people like Foxie had 14 x 8's on the front and 9's on the back. He was much lower and he still cracked the stance!

I think with some camber it could look good.

Perhaps not sat on the tyre, but atleast so you can't see into the arch.

Only about a 5er each more I think.

I might just have to take you up on the 185/50 idea. Why not also the same on the front? It's most likely to scrub on the front I think, as I will never take passengers in the back due to having no rear seats.

185/50/14 on the rear

Dunlops or Continentals? Conti's have a raised rib, whatever that means?

i got 195/45/14 all round with the same wheel specs as you, wish i had gone for 185/50/14 for the rear for that extra clearance but oh well

Why would it be the rear that has issues though and not the front?

Isn't the front of your car lower?

185/50/14 on the rear

wouldn't know i have never experienced dunlops or conti's, I've got toyo proxies t1r's and have treated me well.

Don't know if the mk5 is different but the mk4 has a bigger lip on the rear arch than on the front arch

Think it is the same case on the MK5 mate! I might have to get the 185's then on the rear!

Babz reckons I'm a pussy if I don't go lower than that blue mk5 shown above!! I'll show him :p

. Chrispy had 195's all round with his new wheels, but then changed to 185's on the rear for that extra clearance, i think i might have to do that when i need new tyres. End of the day it's up to you though, the 195/40/14's are only a tenner a corner dearer.

EDIT: Babz can't talk he doesn't have to worry about scrubbing issues, his wheels are tucked in the arch :p

The 195 40 14s are a 5er cheaper than the 185's!

Lol I know it's upto me but I have no experience with stretch or tyre sizes, so wanna get it right first time!

It all depends how low you want to run your car really as to what tyres to get imo, i think if you run your car really low you'll get scrubbing whether or not you go with 195's or 185's, getting your rear arch lip rolled helps though.

I think it would look dodgey with smaller tyres on the back than the front, don't you?

So it's either 195 40's all round or 185 50's all round!

I will eventually get the arches rolled! :)

Width wise they'll be smaller but the tyre wall will be probably taller on the 185's. Lots of people do it though!

Right here we go, i would go 195/40/14 all round as they'll be lower profile than the 45's, and your going to get the lips rolled so it won't matter that there wider than the 185's. That;s just me though

That's it then, stickin' wit' the original plan. 195 40's :)

 good choice, which ones?

Conti's, they look good in the picture above, so might aswel go with the tried and tested ones!

I was in the same position and i just got 195/45 but if you want to go lower get 40 or even less

I'm getting 195 / 40 because 195/ 45 look bulky as hell.

Check this out, same car as above, with 195 / 45 on and not 40's.

Yep course, taking 5mm away is a 12% decrease! So would make a difference

195/45, rolled arches and 5-10 mm spacer at the rear for improved stance.

And turn the coilovers down a bit more

Gotta pay to play
