Got my new wheels on now so thought I'd bump up this thread... heres some pics from poloshow & the spec. Only got the arches finished/painted at about 2am in the morning before the show haha.

So, spec is as follows:

1.3 SPI in Alpine white

Genesis Interior

G40 steering wheel

GT clocks

Wolfsburg window winders and door pins etc

Cheapy head unit, upgraded front speakers and some 6x9s on the shelf (I'm on a budget!)

Smoked headlights, blacked Indicators and wolfsburg badge side repeater blanks

Late-spec rear lights

Badgeless Grille

De-badged boot

Colour-coded boot plynth

De-bump stripped

Phil J 80/80 kit (which is actually more like 60's on the front :-( )

Banded mk1 golf steels, 7.5x13 on the front and 8's on the rear. Roughly ET 10 and 15

Powerflow straight through exhaust

Plans: Lowering top caps and cut a coil out to level the car out, maybe bring the rears up a notch to get some rake on.

Thanks a lot mate :-) Front end will be as slammed as the rear when edition comes around!

Was looking good at the show dude. Get the rears up a notch and the nose as down as low as poss and she will look spot on!! And some of those wheel centres ;)

Love the steels!

i love this car mate, theres sometihng about an alpine white mk3 that really does it for me :)

how did you manage to get your arches like that ? they look excellent, and I'm definately a big fan of banded steels ;)

Thanks mate :) Ahh I just did them myself with a hammer and a heatgun. Just banged them out from the inside then whacked a skim of filler over the top to smoothen them out. Did take me about 3 weeks though. After getting silly quotes from bodyshops even for an arch roll/pull I just thought fuck it what have I got to loose and went at them myself. In the end they cost me about 10 quid to do haha.

wicked mate you cant beat a bit of DIY :) looks awesome!

where did you get the side repeater blanks ?

Hat off to you for doing the arches yourself they look really nice, your car looks mint, as said id just go down on the front a touch.

ahaha no way, how did u get em so smooth looking? did u just fold the lip out wards or have u removed the lip and just pulled the arch out?

Jimmy7: I got the side repeaters off a chap who lives near me, but they were originally ebay jobbies I think. Haven't ever seen another set like them though!

Dooleyz: I fackin loved your 6n aswell mate! Absoloutely lush. I'm moving to Derby in September so you'll probably see my car about

Willirons: First I rolled the arch lip in with a metal pole, then just banged the arch out so it is flat rather than folded at the bottom. Heres a shitty diagram i quickly drew up on paint to show you cos I can't really explain haha.

Hope that makes some sense :-)

yo!

that makes perfect sense! thank for taking time to do that, greatly appreciated, I've jst had problems with poke and cops round here, so does that now fully cover your wheel, I'm dying to see some more pics mate. thanks again

  • Author

Haha cops just seem to be complete twats these days. I drove past one yesterday, he quickly did a U-turn and followed me up the road for about a mile, but I'm guessing he couldnt see anything wrong with my car so turned off at a junction :finger:

Just went out and took a couple of pics for you, hopefully give you a better idea of how they sit. The wheels are pretty much perfectly in line with the arches, maybe slightly tucked. Was a bit flukey how I got them just right though! An just for the record I've never done any bodywork in my life haha, this was first attempt. I thought it was gunna be a proper pikey job but they've come out real nice.

Just been out and taken a few pics for you mate:

wow thats more like it! impressive stuff, yeh u've give me confidence to do my rears now! i have ats classics 8j on the rear with an offset of 0, what size wheels is the offset on your rears, sorry for the question but i dont want to do it and find it doesnt quite cover it, you are car looks mint, so jelous, i gotta get the guts to just attack my ride!

  • Author

Cheers man :) Ooh, could be tricky if they're ET0. Not 100% what the offset is on them, though the chap I bought them off thought they were roughly ET10 or slightly lower. They're mk1 polo/golf steels originally ET45 with a 2.5 inch band, but I got no idea how to work out the offset accurately.

Yeah I was quite scared about attacking the arches but you gotta do what you gotta do! I did get halfway through when they were all roughly banged out and had the paint stripped off them, looked a mess; an I just thought why on earth did i do this just to get a set of wheels to fit haha. Glad I did now though! :-D

Oh btw if youre at edition 38 we could stick one of your classics on the rear of my car if you wanted to see how it would fit?
