AEE bore is 76.5, stroke is 86.9.

May post more pics from museum soon.

Well today I got the engine on my stand, head off and stripped an ready for clean up/ sandblasting. Bottom end strip will be tomorrow. It's taking me longer than expected to do things as I can still only work with one arm wheey.

Bores are fairly glazed, so i'm guessing it's been driven buy an old dear or something. Will be honing them next week i would expect, but apart from that the engine is in very good nick (so it should be after only 40k! I'm tempted to skim the head too.

Once all stripping/cleaning is done i'll be sticking the head on the flow bench and having a look at the standard flow rate.

One other thing i was thinking about also is using crank triggered ignition! Money depending anyway.....

PS. does anyone know if there are any standard VW pistons that are 77.5 or near that diameter?

Edited by Iscariot

Dont know about pistons mate , But crank position ingition sounds good, Is it megajolt that uses the crank sensor?

I have mates with mini's that use this and they love it.

Plans sound good!

Yeah megajolt uses crank triggered ignition, but my tutor tells me i can run it off the megasquirt as an add-on sort of thing.

Anyway today i got the bottom end stripped and ready for honing. Also got the head in the parts cleaner and its looking fresh! I'll add some pics later :)

rather than using megasquirt/jolt etc, why dont you just remap standard GT digifant 1 management?

  • Author

Well i'm going to be doing the mapping myself as i have free use of a rolling road. I don't have the hardware or software needed to remap the standard digifant system, and I don't really wanna pay someone else to do it for me as it'll cost shit loads and i wont gain any experience from it.

An also at a later date i'd like to add ITB's or a Turbo so i'd have to buy standalone management then anyway! :-)

fair enough, lucky man having a rolling road at your disposal, the software to remap digi is free if you know where to look but the emulation hardware will set you back a couple of hundred, but ifyour looking into itb's and turbos in the future then i suppose standalone is the way to go, what standalone are you thinking of going with btw?

Don't spose you know where to look for the software? I'm gonna go for Megasquirt; unless anyone has any other suggestions?

Urmm running about 100mm down on the front and 90 on the back, wheels are 13x7.5 and 13x8 both roughly ET10, it doesnt catch on the back cos i have massively flaired arches :)

Alright mate,

Thinking about getting an AEE for my second polo.

Does it mount in the same way the AFH does then? (missing on one bolt hole)

Guessing it will because of it being from the same car.

Also, How much you pay for yours?

Max

Yesss good call.

Urmm not sure how an AFH mounts, but you can use the mk3 polo engine mount on the AEE using high tensile bolts and leave the third one out, or modify the mount which is what I'm doing!

Paid 100 quid for the engine with all ancillaries an gearbox, with 40k on it. Came out of a Skoda Felicia. I'd recommend getting it from a Felicia rather than a Polo cos when i looked around, people wanted double the price for them in polos for some strange reason.

Are you using Carbs or Injection?

Jon

Yeah it may mount different in the polo to the Felicia, Doesnt matter though and it sounds like what you are doing with the mounts is the same people have to do with the AFH.

I think id much rather go with the AEE or ABD than a AFH. Dont know why, I know the AFH is considerably more powerful than the ABD and probably the same as the AEE. The AEE seems to be ruined with its fuelling system though, Like the one thats posted above, making massive power with just its fuelling system changed.

Its all about 8v's 8-)

Cheapest ABD or AEE iv found is like £100, and that's not even with a gearbox or ancillaries :-(

Haha yeah i prefer driving 8v's to 16v's for some reason.

Check this out! AEE power :-phttp://www.racedandrallied.com/rally-cars-...felicia-kit-car

Don't buy one off ebay mate, they're all overpriced. I'd suggest going to your local scrappy, I got mine from Looms breakers in Derby!

Just come back from derby,

My cousin goes to uni there so went to see her for the night, First time in 7 years or something,

Went to the blue note, You been there lol?

Next time i come down ill give you a holla, want to have a look at these arches in the flesh.

I know there all over priced on ebay but at least youve got some warranty if the engines shagged.

Maxwell out.
