As the title really, I've finally made the jump into buying a car over here but the second hand market is far too over priced, and full of un-cared for cars.

Polo's and Lupo's GTI's do not exist in the Middle East, so i was surprised when i walk into the local Seat dealership that they actually sell the Ibiza Cupra.

The Middle East is still waiting for the new Ibiza to arrive, and its going to be a few months before it come. Plus its using a new 1.4 turbo charged engine, which i doubt there are hardly any modifications avlable currenlty in the Middle East.

Because its going to be an older model, I'm getting it for a good price, plus i get 3 years unlimmited warnty, free servicing and insurance etc etc.

I've seen some threads recenty about Ibiza Cupra's in general, but has anybody had any expirence with the MK4s?

And I'm still unsure about buying a brand new car, but as i say i really dont trust the second hand market over here but i really need a reliable daily as there are plently of other toys i can buy over here but i wouldnt trust them for a daily run about.

have a search on the engine - i'm not sure if it's that version that runs direct port injection if it is they have been suffering badly from valve issues where the fuel isn't running past the valve keeping it clean -er.

Just been doing a bit of research on Seat Cupra.net it looks like the 1.8T isnt direct port injection

I was driving the new Seat Ibiza 1.9 TDI in Majorca and its not that bad a drive, did realise how heavyt the clutch is on the polo and how bad the brakes are

Haha its hot out here, its not too great and a lot of things worry me! Hows the green machine?

If the next year goes ok i will be here for a while hence why i need to buy a new car

The second green machine is doing well, got some problems that I'm sorting out, but I'm thinking now of gettig a Seat Ibiza as it was a nice drive

20vt is a good engine from what i understand, i like my mates interiour in his mk4 fr tdi, cant see any reason not to go for it!

Alex- I've had a good look on that forum over the last few weeks, i cant see any real problems in getting one. Should be a lot of fun, not sure how well the turbo will react to the heat, at the moment its around 44-48 degrees in the afternoon

Nope, as i said in my post the new ibiza have not arrived in the middle east and they are not due for another few months. A few months over here usually means 4-6 months

Yep on to polo number 2, and yep another 5 door. Got a 1.6 99 plate, once of get some pics done i will get them up

Been busy busy busy, should be making next months no-rice and should be doing edition and the polo show, depends on money and if i can get the wheels refurbed

I've got a Mk4 Cupra which I bought new in 2006 (actually pre-registered by Seat so it was 3K off list with 30 miles on the clock). I took it back on warranty several times for a problem with the air bags. Brake switch also failed (common problem) and the washer hoses came apart a few times (really hard to get to the joints). Since then its been fine. Performance is about the same as a 140bhp G40, but handling and braking is in a different league. It's the old VW 1.8 20 valve turbo (same as Golf Gti Audi TT etc). 180bhp with 180 lb/ft torque, 0-62 is 7.2s, top end 143mph. 210bhp with just a remap. Mpg is about 30 driven reasonably but you will struggle to get more than 275 miles or so from a tank. The diesel Cupra is slightly slower but has much better mpg. FR is cheaper 150bhp version but Cupra comes with AP racing 4 pot brakes (awesome) and a huge front mount intercooler, and stability control. Ride is quite firm so if the roads are bad you may not like it. Slightly gutless if you try to accelerate in the wrong gear and the turbo isn't spinning. It's not as much fun to drive as my G40 but I've been happy with it once the warranty issues were sorted.

If they are still selling the Mk4 they are probably old stock. My car was registered in Jan 2006 but was actually made in mid 2004. I think they had a field full of Cupras they couldn't sell.

Thanks for the info above, MPG isnt really a consideration in this country! Ill be making my decision later on today. Only other car that comes close to this at the moment is a Clio sport. But i hate Clio's! Or a V8 Mustang. I've driven the V6 and the V8, look shit hot but kinda not too much fun to drive

ah it said in your first post it was a 1.4t, i was thinking it was the 1.4 tfsi. if it's a 1.8t then there are relatively no issues, these are amazing engines in my eyes.

i had the mk3 ibiza cupra 1.8t - i did the water pump as they're fitted with the crap plastic impeller that brakes up, blew the coilpacks one at a time (should have changed them all in one go) and i cracked 5 sumps in 4 months but that's because it was so low. as said above can get 200+ bhp with a map.

Gave in to the Cupra, picked it up 2day. Already had a bit of fun but not too much, will have take it easy until the engine has broken in. Its already back in the garage as they have to tint the windows and I'm off too the UK for a while, so it will be safer there.
