where abouts have you guys mounted aftermarket speakers?

Since I'm hoping to buy a new audio system soon, I wondered what some of you guys had done, and how much it cost. (Pics would be nice)

Right now, I've got the two standard (3"?) speakers, and two whack-off hi-fi speakers (I improvised :p ), connected to an old tape deck.

Also, I'm wondering if I'll need a sub as I'm not after ridiculous amounts of bass.

Advice, gentlemen?
