I have no socket for a cigarette lighter, just a plastic disc.

I assumed a Genesis would have one, looks like I was wrong?

ermm you can buy them from "halfords" then just wire to another wire thats has power i think, but you will need to remove the disk then mount it and secure it :)

Dont trust the haynes.

If you pull off the facia for the fan controls you will see 2 screws that hold the coin tray in, remove that and you should see the lighter plug, its a white 3 pin block type

No plug, what colour are the cables?

Off the top of my head, small blue and grey cable is for the light feed, then brown earth, big red cable is live.

You could feed a live off the battery but you would need to put a in-line fuse as close to the battery and the plug as possible, and then pick an earth cable to tap into.

Get one from a scrapyard, will look much better than a halfords job. Bit surprised a genesis doesn't have one, I always thought they were the top spec under GT/G40. My CL has one so there should be plenty around!

why not? I've never known the haynes wiring diagrams to be wrong.

i would get the unit out a CL in the scrappy and get the wiring loom too (its seperate from the main dash loom 1 connector and 1 10mm bolt) then its plug and play and still all VW and minimum hastle.

genesis's never had them as they were based on the fox hence the no glove box lid too.

You say this,ut are Match Parades the same as i have no glovebox lid or cig lighter

Theres no hard or fast rule tbh. My genesis had a glove box door and a cig lighter.

I think Match/Parade models are more or less Fox models.

I got 1 for £2 from the scrappy. And as already stated, its all still VW & will fit no probs

Why?

I got a helfrauds one. the actual lighter has broke already (I don't smoke so don't use it yet its still broke ) but the socket itself still works.

Its wired straight off the battery with an in-line fuse! Haven't had any problems with this set up yet

Yeah,the lighter. Phone charger lives in mine,but i intend to wire-in a cable for it.

The socket in this early car will then need a cap of some sort,as its high up on the dash.

Anyone know if these are available,and where?

Wait your Genesis doesnt have one? thats really weird cause only the Fox (basic) model doesn't have one normally.

The Fox and Match parade Definately dont have one, but the Genesis sometimes has one, my mates brother had on in his old one but his latest genisis has a disk over it instead :/

May have depended what teh could of been arsed or an old fashioned option in those days :L
