My first post and my first Polo!

Thomas from Norway, kind of an MK1 golf guy owning 10-11 of them the last years, but wanting something different (and fun) the choice fell on the (In Norway) wery rare G40. I'n not really much of a mechanic, but try to fix everything myself, and this is where you guys hopefully will help me as i know basically nothing about polo G40's.

nuff said about me, the car:

93 G40 imported from germany in 1999. the owner had quite a different taste than me, but i bet this car turned heads back in 2000 (when it got the transformers-look). the colour is the same used on some fords (I think Puma and cougars atleast).

you could tone it down easily just by getting rid of the spolier and skirts

So that is how the car used to look like, but i have quite other plans. I have owned the car only for a few days, so things are just getting started, but it will evolve hopefully into something much cleaner and more "racing".

clean as in no plastic and styling, racing as in no interior except two bucket seats.

as you can see - there is enough to do!

immediate plans are:

getting rid of sideskirts

cutting off the lower part of the rear bumper (it is moulded onto an original bumper)

getting rid of the bad-look, getting a new hood in other words

fix some rust in floor and elsewhere as i find more

changing the painted interior-bits

new steering wheel

bucket seats

getting rid of sound-deadening

paint the car inside (and outside sooner or later)

i'm gonna have a million questions so bare with me - all answers are highly appreciated, and sorry if my english is hard to understand at times

when the car was buildt some years ago it was put quite an effort into it and most of the work was done well. however i fear whats beneath the side-skirts taking into consideration they are fastened with self drilling bolts. bet there are more rust to find!

that spoiler made me laugh! other than that it doesnt look so bad, a bit 2001 style, but it doesnt look like it'll take much work to get it up to shape

finally ripped off the skirts - lots of holes and some minor rust, but nothing too bad at first glance atleast.

new steering wheel and "snap-off" hub (is it called that? )

for sale - cheap!

It's a nice colour, I think it'll look really good once you get rid of all those horrible things someone has stuck all over it

checked the car underneath today (had to buy a new lifter, couldnt get under with the old one!) - looks okay for rust in floor, the engine is sweating some oil fron the oilpan but nothing too serious.

when i give full throttle on first and second gear there is this noise sounding like the exhaust is in contact with the chassis or something - couldnt see anything obvious but it might be the piece of metal placed underneath the exhaust in the front-end of the tunnel.

also found one of the screws being loose on the "thing" under the metal, dont know the correct name(?) - its damaged, so no wonder why it was loose...

last picture is the chip - digitec. this is supposed to be for 68mm pulley-wheel, right? i measured mine to be 75mm in diameter - is it correct to measure it like that? if so is i need to buy me a smaller pulley wheel :) hehe

need place to fit oiltemp and oilpressure + AFR (the gauge for AFR have one cable on the back - do i take signal from the lambda-sensor? and which cable, the lambda has 3)

also started fixing my hood after taking off the "bad-look". some rust appeared so used epoxy-filler after grinding.

3 layers of paint - need 4 or 5 because of the hvite filler (should used a darker one, but this was what i had at hand)

finish isnt the highest priority here either - it looks good enough until a new paintjob

that air intake on the front wing is bloody hideous lol, get that fixed asap plz :)

other than that love what you have done youve got it going in the right direction for shore.

Its always good to see people given cars a second chance after they've become 'interestingly' modified, as quite often once they've reached that point they're unfortunately beyond saving due to past bodges, etc.
