Mk2 Loon on twin 40's finished

Featured Replies

to be fair mate a combo of our cars would be sick :)

hehe yeah I know what you mean. The care should be at edition for all those who would like to see it. Will be the first show since all work has been completed.

I do have a question. Does anyone on here know the diference in duration between the GK cam STD on this engine and the GT cam?

I have a GT cam but do not want to swap it in yet if there is no reall big differance.

Ok guys just got back from camebridge,

The figures are 90 bhp on the wheels. THe car is running like a little beast! I am so pleased with the performance. I will get a proper dyno test done where I had the last one done before the conversion, I will post the power graphs and torque figures then.

Next on the agenda is a rebuilt head with big cam and gas flowed. That should see me close to or just on 120 bhp at the fly wheel. So I am very happy now!!!

nice loon lad :)

Many thanks.

O I also forgot to add, if you don't get your dizzy rebuilt to work with the 40's then you are throwing away horse power. THe std vacume advance unit does not have enough advance in it to cope properly with the timing requirements of the 40's. That is why you will see mine is not a standerd unit.

You say you modified the vac advance bottle or did you recurve the centrifugal advance by replacing the springs/weights? I notice in the final pic that the vac bottle is missing or hidden and its position looks in a more 'retarded' position suggesting it might not be a polo distributor?

Hey there,

I didn't rebuild it myself, H&H ignitions did. They removed the vacume advance totaly. They also set it up to run with twin 40's. In the picture the car had not been timed up so don't let that fool you.

H&H did a dam good job, the car runs really good when warm! hehe then that is the nature of webers. THe car is now running about 105BHp at the fly wheel.

hey guys new video. Though you might like to se the little beast in action.

PS turn the sound up!

good result, do you have any plots to post up? or torque figures?

I will as soon as I run it on the same dyno I used to get the power before the conversion.

At the moment I have spent all my money on doing the conversion, so I will do it within the next few months.

That way I have a decent comparison on the same dyno. The car is putting out 89.8 bhp at the wheels according to the gent who tunned it.

Which is still dam good considering from factory it only had 55 at the fly. So 105 at the fly is estimated on my part. I haven ot done the official calculation so I stand corrected. However I am still happy considering I still have a gas flowed head and cam to go. When all the head work is done I am looking at about 120 at the fly. I know there are those who have pmed saying that sounds iffy, as ther conversion only netted about 98 at the fly with cams etc.

My reply to those people is, its not the sum of the parts that make the power its how they are installed and how the car is built that makes the differance. You can not expect to get the full power for instance if you have not bothered to sort out your ignition curve to suit the carbs, no matter what head work and cam your running if your timing is not 100% correct your pi££ing in the wind. SOrry rant over. Just saying I have not cut corners and as a result this has taken me 3 months extra.

PS Polopete that was not aimed at you bro, cheers
