Lost locking wheel nut key

Featured Replies

Help! I've lost my locking wheel nut key on my 07 Polo after a quick wheel change at the side of the road! Where can I get a replacement from - options other than VW (as I imagine their charge will be hefty) really appreciated. The bolts have a 19 pointed star on them and the key goes into rather than around the bolt head.

Thanks!

Steve

Only place is VW. As long as you still have the code for your locking wheel nut they will make you a new one for around £20.

You could go to a garage and get them drilled off and then just buy a new set of locking nuts.

you need to get one out for the code on the bottom of it, presuming they are the original vw ones. last time i needed one it was only £13 for a new key and a new bolt 8-)

you might get lucky and not need a code. I very much doubt that every single polo with locking nuts from the dealer has totally unique bold pattern.

I wouldnt be suprised, infact, if they are all the same. In which case you either go and but a new one for a few quid, or just have them take the bolts out and get some new nuts.

Failing that, AA, RAC, or a decent tyre place, might have a tool for removing locking nuts.

Main dealer should have a master set, go through them and find which one fits and order a new one!

£9 to £20 +VAT depending on the syle.

BTW, ben_reza, Land Rover Freelander 2 locking wheel nut keys are cut to chassis number when oredering new ones!

i found this post because i was searching for advice on losing the locking wheel nut key for my Polo, the latest (2016) is that Sinclair Volkswagen no longer do replacement keys, but they do hold the master key. It just cost me almost £92 for unlocking 4 nuts and replacing them with a new key, plus labour.
