16V head

Featured Replies

Will this head fit on any other blocks? I know the AEE fouls for variuos reasons (cheers mikey) but i may be able to get hold of one, and i know they are rare, just dont want to be hanging around waiting for an AFH block to pop up

Cheers

It can only go on blocks with 16v pistons in them. There's a common alloy block 1.4 16v (must be from 6n2,dont get a Golf one unless you only need the internals for a 1.4 8v Polo block) and that'd give equal power - but with a circa 20kg weight reduction.

You'll have to check oil/coolant channels meet, but it's easy enough to channel any that dont with a micro drill.

And you'll likely have to use the thinner head bolts or get the block tapped.

There's also the possibility that the 'new key' crank sprocket wont be wide enough for the AFH belt, and you may have to use a 1.4 8v crankshaft and AFH oil pump to get the 'old key' AFH sprocket to fit - if you can find one anyway (the 1.6 crank wont fit in the block without the rods fouling,I've tried).

Yeah, that one from the 6n2 you mention, is that from the other 16v they did, the one that didnt produced the lower bhp (cannae mind the code :?)

Failing finding one of those, could you put 16v pistons into a different block (say 1.6 AEE, with the 1.6 con rods). or would the piston heads not fit the rods?

Whats different about the pistons, do they have a particular profile to them? Also, you say about drilling channels, but how do you know which i water, and which is oil? Wouldnt want to mix them up :?

That's what i reported in that topic I've given the link for. You need 1.6 16v rods because they're shorter, and you need the 1.4 block because its also shorter. The only way of using an AEE is with a custom belt.

Yeah, the ally block is the 75bhp one - but obviously the bottom end has no bearing on power output and would give the same 100bhp with AFH head and fueling.

Oh yeah, and the channels - you just use the gasket to see what lines up and what doesnt, and use it as a stencil to make any necessary adjustments.

Ok, i see. In the link-topic i thought you had used AEE-type rods and heads. I see now. Could you use any 1.6 16v piston/rod set up (e.g. golf or polo?). And how hard are they to get hold of?

Is the 1.6 16v the engine from a polo GTI?

Thanks again in kind

BTW, are you from Milton Keynes?

You can put it on a ABU/AEE/AEA bottom enc, but getting the pulleys to work is a hassle

My rods/pistons are from a MK4 Golf BCB 1.6 16v. Crank is 6n Polo AEE 1.6 8v. Rest is AFH.

I'm in MK,yes.
