MK2 Golf or Civic EK4 (VTi)

Featured Replies

so i have 1 big choice to make ahead of myselfin the next month or so,

do i buy a mk2 16v gold and stay in the dub scene ?

or do i get a civic EK4 and have possibly the best ever 1.6 engine made under the bonnet ?

But the big question is how much diffrence is between the 2 on handling and performace ? and is there a scene for the likes of Civics ?

I'm stuck in a difficult decision here :)

i would of imagined there would be quite a big scene for the civics mate. can't comment on which is the best as i've never owned a civic, but i have owned a mk2 16v and its the best car i ever owned. that's not saying its the best car in the world or owt or that its better than the civic, but it never let me down once, took daily abuse and was so much fun to drive no matter how bad a mood i was in i'd always come back from a spirited drive with a smile on my face :D

golf all the way matey!

golf. obviously :-D

Hmm

i'm a huge fan of both of them.

don't know much about Civic's but i know they look sick :).

however, can't really go wrong with a mk2 golf ><

It's nice to have a general car topic that isn't Polo related.

I've got an mk2 8v late big bumper model that needs work but I know it will always have value as car and as parts. A good 16v model will always keep it's value from what I've read.

Can't comment about Civics, I suppose it's natural for a mk2 polo owner to want a mk2 golf I certainly love the look of the early mk's of watercooled dubs, such a statement nowadays amongst modern cars.

I'm sure there's an argument for the civic in terms of it's handling and performance. Other things to consider being parts available, aftermarket stuff and I suppose how easy is it to access say a water pump?

Sure someone will give you the civic argument. Why not join a forum?

BASED ON MY FINDINGS I CONCLUDE THAT CIVIC IS BEST MY FINDINGS IN GRAPH FORM

BWHAHAHA!

^^ haha!! I say flick a coin!! Both are wicked cars, if you get the civic then you can always go back to vw's whenever!

I've had both! :D

civic was my little sleeper ;)

but for style and class id go for the mk2 Golf :D

golf gti has a far better image, but my stepsister has a civic and its quite a nice car. never gone wrong once either

I've noticed the price of mk2 gti's have been steadily climbing for a while now so on that basis I'd go for the golf before they get too expensive for what they are

..also might be a bit of an investment too :)

They are both nice cars but think i would go for the Golf.

Very tough decision! I'd drive both and see what you prefer. Why does everyone talk about "V-tec kicking in"? V-tec is just the name for variable valve timing and lift....

Because when v-tec kicks in, it kicks you into the back of your seat.

My mate has one, and it is fucking rapid, but you do have to rev the nuts off of it.

Sounds awesome though when hes in v-tec, it echoes around the countryside and sounds like your listening to a burg cup car when he really has his toe down. Not sure on speeds, but another friends Polo G40 could just about keep up with it.... until the civic hit v-tec...

But like most people are saying, the mk2 golf is so much better looking and respectable and isn't jap...

sorry but go for vtec. or do the one better and put the vtec engine in the golf :)

arnt these single cam vtec?

put the vtec engine in the golf :)

doubla over headaa cams i assume?

DOHC

I'd hardly call the EK4 1.6 the best ever 1.6 engine. A 16v Mk2 Golf would probably hand it's arse to it seeing as they actually have a surprisingly broad spread of torque. If you said EK9, I'd be saying yes.

The scene for jap cars is fucking massive too.

... until the civic hit v-tec...

vtec is always running tbh

fancy some vtec actually, anyone want a corrado?

my grandad has an R reg prelude 2.2 vtec that used to belong to my uncle before he fooked off to bali and been left on his drive for about 3 years. he recently told me he was thinking about giving it to me, but my mum talked him out of it coz she thought it was too fast and id kill myself, WTF lol

i only found out about that when he put a ticket back on it and decided he was going to use it himself. so gay haha
