they look damn cool, but the fact you couldnt use them to they're full power potential sucks, a lot

also i still stand by my opinion that you look like a chav in a jap car. theres a guy whos about 40 odd who drives past me while I'm on my way to work who owns an R34 skyline and he looks like suuuuuuch a dick

That looks sic! Is it just me or is the the bumper slightly darker than the rest of the car?

IMO you would be crazy to pick a mk2 golf over a Civic EK4. They are far better on speed, reliability and can look seriously cool with a few touches!

My only reason for getting a mk2 golf would be if it was packing big power already and to stay in the Vdub scene, which is pretty toss at the moment from what I've experienced.

I am not saying that VWs are the most reliable cars ever, but people seem to have this rose tinted view that Hondas don't break. They do. Honda have a very, very good marketing team. They know how to twist figures to make it seem like they've never had an engine failure. I know someone who put a rod through a block on an 85000km EK9. Of course, Honda weren't interested, as it's a Jap only car and nothing to do with UK dealers. I'm sure they'd find some way of proving it wasn't their fault though. But if you've got a car that revs to 9 grand standard and peak power is over 8k, you aren't exactly doing anything wrong by thrashing it are you.

Anyway - EK4s are a nice car to drive. I've driven one around some rural Kentish roads and had a laugh. I'm just very much more of a Mk2 Golf person.

THey are surprisingly economical, and parts are a lot cheaper than you'd expect. As I said, the scene is massive!

I've had a Mk2 GTI (just the 8v) and I'v driven an EK4 sir VTI, I have to say they are both very very fun cars to drive.

If i had to choose one though it would be the Mk2 Golf. They just seem to have that little bit more character. Yes the Honda was fun and when in VTEC they fucking shift and you have that immense soundtrack too. But they seem just a bit too clinical and no real character there, there was no lasting impression after my drive. Nothing about it said I must now go out and buy one.

In the Golf though there is this sense of theate and drama when your really hammering it along. Thats what I want when I'm driving so for that reason I would have the Golf. As said I have already owned an 8v and if I come across a mint 16v locally I'd be struggling to find a good reason not to buy it.

I have them as well. They are worth more then RA's, Sebrings etc due to being a little rarer and also 15x7 instead of 15x6.

Got this a couple of days ago, what a result (Must have gone under other peoples radar) so now i have 5 of them. Plus i have the boot carpet which means you can have alloys in the spare wheel well.

thinking of giving them a good refurb and just sticking it on coilies.

Allready got the big bumpers etc, maybe consider some G60 arches, keeping it OEM though i think then when i get some money together get some width but not too much, still want to retain good handling/pickup :)

Only get G60 arches if you got the wheels to fit, 15x7 looks tiny with those arches, my bro has 16x7.5 under his and look much better.

depends really i need to be able to use the back seats on this one. unlike the polo

so ill be looking at a decent coil over setup that can go seriously stiff, so i can run a fairly low offset on the back without rubbing under load. Then the G60 arches should be a good idea so i can aim to fill them out abit :)

So there is a fair amount of difference, iirc its 22mm wider on the front and 7mm on the rear but its the look.

You wont regret going VTEC, I love the MK2 golfs aswell though but i'm yet to come across a MK2 Gti (16v or 8v) that'll keep up, here's myne:
