I have a CarPc up for grabs, reluctant sale as it's an awesome piece of kit! However I need funds to repair the polo.

The installation of the Pc is practically plug and play, they way in which I completed the soldering of all the components is so that everything was very versatile in sense that the pc could be moved in and outdoors!

The kit comes with everything to put it in bar the screen. You can pic these up cheaply and I'll also point you in the right direction for one!

COMPUTER - £200

- Windows XP OS (cut down version of the windows, so it loads faster when ignition is switched on)

- 120GB 3.5" HDD.

- CPU P4 2.4 ghz Socket 478.

- Road Runner Front End touch screen software pre-tuned to work with winamp!

- A heap of flash games, films and songs.

- (Can install Navigator in for you, all you would need is to buy a USB GPS receiver £4-5? on Ebay.

- Can also Install Office 08 completely free as well!

- All it's 8 gage wiring including (in-line fuse holder).

Gave a little info to someone on how it works so thought I'd post it up here aswel!

How it works:

Pc starts up by 2 ways. Manual switch and an automatic ignition switch. Basically if the manual switch is left on constantly the computer will be turned on when ignition is started and turned off when ignition is turned off (when you pull out the key). However I installed the manual switch because say if you wanted just to quickly pop round to the corner shop and didn't really need the sounds on then you wouldn't want the pc starting up. So I installed the switch into the ignition cable.

Powering the PC:

The pc is powered by CNX-P1900 DC-DC PSU Regulator. Does a host of things:

- Survives Engine Cranking under full load over entire temperature range

-Includes sophisticated Startup/Shutdown Controller

-Low battery monitor prevents drained battery, even during Standy/Sleep

- "Deadman Timer" automatically exits Sleep mode after 72 hours to prevent battery damage

- "Anti Thump" delayed remote control for audio amplifiers

and a whole loads of other things like powering screens and powering other computers like macs!.

You basically connect one end of the cables to the battery and then other end to the PC. Which I've all wired up and soldered so it's really plug and play to be honest.

Getting the audio.

You would be able to get audio through the use of a 4 channel amp so 4 speakers Front Left Right, Rear Left Right.

This diagram basically tells you what you do:

I can provide all the Y - adaptors and RCA to headphone jack adapters and RCA cables if you want, I can purchase them cheaply! You'd just need to get a 4 channel amp cheaply in that case. Typically the amp will be wired the usual way to the battery and then grounded.

The Screen

Basically the screen you'll need will be a VGA, USB integrated screen. There's going to loads and loads of screens out there and I'd advise to go with standalone screens. Without the extra crap like built in amp ect. They seriously are not worth getting and have a whole heap of problems. The place I usually get my screens from is http://www.linitx.com Although there are other places. Screens can range from different sizes and styles it's just what suits you best and what fits and what can be fabricated into your car! Most screens will always have the turn off and one switch at the front. although when powering through the CNX-P1900 DC-DC PSU Regulator it'll turn off and on automatically with either the ignition or manual switch.

You can buy screens from ebay, or Linitx, do a google search there are a load of Uk based companies selling screen for different prices!

Has a built in sound card. All you would need to purchase is a 4 Channel amp.

Another idea, probably easiest to be honest would be to use "AUX in" feed on most head units to get audio!

Hi i have a JVC-AVX810 head unit which is a touchscreen do you reckon i could use the touchscreen to control it (probably not) or would i only be able to plug the PC in via the video in and just use a mouse and keyboard?

Yeah pretty much! Although i noticed someone was selling a screen dirt cheap on the forum here to run a PC like this!

Really is an amazing kit. Endless hours of fiddling about on it! Would of kept it, but need cash to put for a new motor.
